So remember that big screen reboot of 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' that was in the works? You know, the one that was moving forward without Joss Whedon involved at all. Well that project has hit a bit of a snag. When first-time screenwriter Whit Anderson turned in her script for the film last summer, it was soundly rejected. Apparently whatever it is the studio was looking for in a Whedon-less 'Buffy' revamp (forgive the pun) just wasn't coming through in Anderson's screenplay. So what now? The hunt is on for a new writer, but no word yet on the progress of that search.
What's strange about this whole situation is that they are trying to put together a cinematic reboot for, ostensibly, a TV series that was itself a reboot of the original 1992 film. Also strange is that the studio keeps spinning its wheels desperately trying to convince itself that this project is ever going to get off the ground. It's been "in development" for over two years now with nothing to show for it but a debunked rumor that it would star Megan Fox and now, apparently, a rejected script. It's possible there was a push in recent months to get something together to capitalize on the expected resurgence of Whedon with 'The Avengers,' but that doesn't seem to have panned out. Like any bloodsucker who tangles with Buffy, I am willing to bet this movie is dead for good.

Comment by Shepard Tone on December 26, 2011 at 4:57am I dont think a reboot is really necessary. Maybe they could make vampires scary again and have some knocks at Twilight but really I dont think a reboot would be all that good anyways. Meh...If Whedon is involved I'll definitely go see it, but I wont get my hopes up.
Comment by KGishFish on December 25, 2011 at 6:37pm Why is a Buffy reboot even necessary? What is so crappy about the TV show that we need to remake it? The only dated aspect of the show is the fashion. And the fact they don't have cell phones.
Comment by mst3k4evur on December 25, 2011 at 2:36pm Doomed from the start by first alienating Whedon fans, being seemingly a remake of a bomb and coming at a time when remakes/reboots and forced sequels are bombing at the box office. Best to kill the project and move on.

Comment by BlackMagic on December 24, 2011 at 7:56pm To be fair, a lot of projects are "in development" for a long time before they're either killed altogether or resurrected. Well, if they're on the hunt for a new writer, may as well let them see what else they can do, or who they can get.
Comment by John Lemus on December 24, 2011 at 9:01am If I were to do this I would cast either Linda Cardellini or Teresa Palmer as buffy.
Comment by John Lemus on December 24, 2011 at 8:58am If this is going to happen I would just put the guys that did the Fright Night remake
Craig Gillespie Marti Noxon who did lars and the real girl which I thought was pretty clever
Marti Noxon who actually worked on buffy and angel and I am number 4
Comment by jason franklin on December 23, 2011 at 11:33pm i think that more then likely this well not happen.the tv series buffy is more of a spin-off of the movie not a reboot.but the show was a product of its time.having the bulk of its viewers from the late 90's .it played on real world humor in other worldly settings.so trying to reproduce that would come off goofy or silly now that almost 10 years has past since the show went of the air and by that statement if you did a buffy remake/reboot/spin-off then the humor or lack there of would mark these times.this would make buffy either more like True Blood or Twilight in either case it would not be buffy it would be a train wreck. although if they pulled it off it could be pretty good
Comment by Chris Bartel on December 23, 2011 at 10:12pm after the campy movie the tv show was actually half way decent, trying to make a reboot after a halfway decent show that ran for 7 seasons and then had an 8th season in comic book form, I would be happy if this never saw the light of day. Now if they want to go and make a trilogy off "the strain" trilogy written by chuck hogan and guillermo del toro that i would be up for.
