I just saw this movie after listening to your reviews and I 100 percent have to disagree with your review, I enjoyed this movie alot. I think you got the Kristen Wiig character wrong, she was in my opinion the most sympathetic character in the movie, she was sleeping with a Jerk, her dream business was forced to close because of the economy, she was working a shitty job that she hated, and now her best friend was getting married and she felt that she was being replace by a new better looking rich friend that was able to afford to do things she could not, a new Friends that at every turn tried to implant herself as the better alternative. Lillian the character played by Maya Rudolph even begins to be drawing into this world of glamor and expensive things and loses her sense of self, in your review you say that the Kristen Wiig character is the childhood friend that you leave behind which is so wrong, she is the friend that you keep because she know the real you, and has seen you at your best and worse and never left your side.

This is the first time I've ever disagreed with you guys. I loved this movie! I was laughing almost throughout the entire movie, and so was everybody in the theater! I swear it's not just a movie for women, because there were plenty of guys in the theater who were cracking up just as much as me and my friends. I think it's a little unfair to compare it to The Hangover, because I don't think it was written to be the female Hangover, that's just what people are calling it. I agree that there wasn't a lot of camaraderie among the bridesmaids, but that didn't make the movie bad. I also agree that Kristen Wiig's character goes beyond flawed to being awful, but she was still hilarious. And I'm not going to lie, I hated the scene where they were trying on dresses and throwing up.

 

Whether you like this movie or not has nothing to do with whether you're man or a woman. I think what made the movie was all the painfully awkward parts, and you either like that kind of humor or you don't. I definitely think this is a full price movie.

You guys rock! I'm never listening to Rotten Tomatoes again. 89% fresh?! This was easily the worst movie I have ever been to. I'm so glad I've already forgotten what happened in it because it deserves to never be seen again. I can't believe that people actually spent time to make this crap. And why do people think this movie was so original? Was it because they've never seen women cuss in movies before? It was just sticking in every cheesy chick-flick plot device to make it seem like it there was something present. Ugh, I was ready to leave in the first 5 minutes. I'm not watching anything made by Universal Studios for a while if they allowed such half-assed projects to be made.

I think what made this movie intolerable is Kristen Wiig's uncanny ability to even make the audience feel awkward.  I never really started laughing at any of the three main women, but I believe Melissa McCarthy, Ellie Kemper, and Wendi McLendon-Covey were hilarious.  Many likened this movie to a female version of the hangover, but I feel that they didn't aim at men AT ALL!  Where as the hangover was a unisex movie in which most everyone I know (Male and Female alike) enjoyed the HELL out of that movie!  I enjoyed such movies as: John Tucker Must Die, When In Rome, etc. but this movie just rubbed me all the wrong ways.  And to top it off is that Wiig co-wrote this screenplay, and you can tell that she wrote it to make it go WITH her awkward personality.  I honestly couldn't agree with the guys more on this movie.

The reason the guys think Melissa McCarthy is attractive (even though she's a big girl) is that she's the cousin of Jenny McCarthy.  Yeah THAT Jenny McCarthy (actress and former Playmate of the Year).  Guess they have some good genes.

 

Still won't see this movie since I knew it would suck.

Doek Knight: I agree. I thought initially I'd be really forgettable after a couple days, but it did stick with me more than I thought. In fact, I lean low Full Price now. But it's also partially because I'm kind of bewildered the rating was so low from these guys after having some sense of how they review and what they like. The more I think about it, a consensus of Rental I could believe, but that Some Ol Bullshit is kind of surprising. I'm not angry or criticizing, just surprised.

Okay, I watched it. LOL I can't believe you guys hated it. I can only assume it was because you're not comfortable with girls being real - ie) you're not really into watching unfuckable girls be unfuckable in movies. Which is sad, but hey, you'll like Transformers 3 - Victoria Secret Model #48 posing and preening for no reason on the big screen while robots blow shit up. As far as roles for girls go that's probably more your speed lol.
