Behold the second trailer for Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel.' The 'Watchmen' director's take on the legendary Superman character is set to bow next summer and we know, surprisingly little about the story. This latest trailer is similarly not forthcoming with details, and though that is frustrating, I'm glad for not being spoiled. It looks like it's going to be another origin story, which is a little disappointing. I do think it's funny that we finally see Michael Shannon as Zod in the same trailer as a shot wherein Henry Cavill is posed almost exactly like Shannon was in 'Take Shelter.' Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.

'Man of Steel' hits theaters June 14th, 2013

@Michael-Orian,  I'm not wearing nostalgia goggles when speaking of Donner's Superman. I never said it "holds up".

I said that in dark times we need films that uplift us and give us hope for the future.

Not all superhero films have to be dark. A Superman film can be serious, realistic, grounded, and in touch without being dark.

I really wish people would remove their nostalgia goggles when speaking of Donner's Superman. It really doesn't hold up as soon as we hit Metropolis. And yes Superman needs to be a little darker if they want to be more in touch with the comics. There are quite a few dark storylines involving Superman.

For those of you who think that a Superman movie should be dark, moody, and gritty you have to remember that Superman was created as a symbol of hope. Sure dark, moody, and gritty works for some superhero characters like Batman, Punisher, and Wolverine. But, it doesn't work for other characters like Superman, the Fantastic Four, or Captain Marvel (Shazam!).

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for a serous, grounded, and realistic Superman. But, sometimes serous, grounded, and realistic goes too far to the extreme and becomes too dark and depressing.

Some may say that a dark tone makes the film more realistic. That it reflects our dark time that we live in. However, Superman was created in a time that was much darker than today. Superman was created in the late 30s when the U.S. was still dealing with the great depression. Hitler was gaining power in Germany and the world was on the brink of World War II. Superman was created in this time to uplift the people and give hope to the future.

Therefore, a Superman movie should uplift us. It should not be dark and depressing. There should be more movies like Richard Donner's 1978 Superman to uplift us and give us hope.

...& do you know what would make an already banal story amazing?

This is an interesting point since Man of Steel could be a retelling of Superman's origin story and how it differs to Batman Begins or even Amazing Spider-man. Even though there has never been a full story of Batman’s origin in a theatrical movie until Begins, his origin has been told numerous times in several mediums (comics/TV/video games) and at times has been used as a narrative point and character exploration to drive the main story. The origin story in Begins may not actually be canon, but the great thing is that how it invokes a certain type of storytelling and how it is explored certain themes of the character and thus the use of flashback/non-linear storytelling are greatly effective.  So really, I don’t mind if it’s another origin story for Superman since it’s another means of exploration and depth. There are many times Superman explores its origin and brings out different themes and ideas and pulls off greatly. Just as long it is not blatant retelling of an origin story like Amazing Spiderman and that I would have to watch the film to see how it is. From what I see, Man of Steel could be an origin story, but told in a different and unique way and seeing how Nolan pulled off brilliantly with Batman, he may do the same with here.

@Stiver

Wait for the actual film to come out dude, THEN judge all you want. And what's the point in complaining now? No matter what you guys say, this movie is still coming out, lol.

Besides, it doesn't matter if you do the same story again and again, what matters is HOW it's handled. Seriously, you guys need to see the film first before complaining.

@y Mr Rimmer

Batman never had an origin story film, and even the other media only barely touches on it other than his parents being dead. The Tim Burton movies were awful.

EVERYONE knows Superman's origin. It's permeated in culture for almost 75 years. They did it in the 1978 film. They did it twice in the 90s with Lois & Clark and Superman TAS. They spent 10 FUCKING YEARS re-doing his origin in Smallville.

We don't need another goddamn superman origin story.
