Braingasm Podcast Episode 62: Avenger Babies

In this our 62nd episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are joined by the artist formerly known as Sawyer, Shawn Strong (@diasmae). He designed our wonderful logo so you had better be nice to him. We were also joined by his daughter Viv, but you'll figure that out eventually

We began with...well we began with, continued with and, yes, even ended with a discussion of the new film that you may or may not have heard of,The Avengers. In the interest of full disclosure this episode was originally going to be just a review (like the one that we did heea
http://braingasmpodcast.com/post/22460346329/braingasm-reviews-marv...) but Shawn and Ben had so much fun and went on for such a long time that we decided to make it a regular episode/Avengers special.

If you already listened to our review (and why wouldn't you have because it's great) fret not about this feeling like a retread. Shawn had a drastically different opinion of the movie that Melissa did so the conversation went in many new and interesting directions. Although some similar points were brought up the context and the response to them made it so that it was deja vu inducing.

One thing to note is that while we did have a spoiler zone and a non-spoiler zone, Shawn and Ben were much more loose lipped than Ben and Melissa. That being said they are pretty upfront about the possibility of spoilers and they make sure to warn you right before they launch into one.

Spoiler "free": 0:00-1:09:19
Spoiler Infested: 1:09:20-End

This will likely be the last of these disorganized shows as Ben will be moving into a rental house and returning to a normal schedule. On behalf of all of us here I want to thank you guys for sticking with us and being the best fan base a podcast could ask for. Look for episode 63 to see the triumphant return of What's Been Filling Your Void and Movie Wager update.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about your point on the Thor entrance I laughed out loud at your criticism about the agent coulson death. I never thought about it that way but it's true. He still went out like a boss though

Not sure how to hide spoilers, so here there be spoilers below:

Thor was sent back as he is the protector of Midgard and Asgard has found out about Loki and the Tesseract.  It is a one way trip with him needing to find both of those things and come back.  Without that knowledge, Thor could not have come to Midgard without having a way of coming back as it would leave Asgard vulnerable.

Phase 2 stuff, Fury explained it was not his original plan and that Tony knew what his first option was, and it was implied that people above Fury were going to go ahead with Phase 2 testing and Fury wanted to make sure to be over that to oversee what was going on.  He laid out the reasons why, there are aliens with powers we do not know about, we need something to give us a chance, either you, the Avengers, or Phase 2.  It then seemed that everyone knew once they got the Tesseract, Thor was to use it to leave with Loki and the Phase 2 power source would be gone and leave Phase 2 nearly useless.

On to what I did not like about it.  Hawkeye.  So, if he is this badass as he appears to be in the last 3/4ths of the film, how did he not kill Nick Fury at the start and Agent Hill in the chase scene or even in the exchange of fire before the car chase?

Agent Coulson died.  So what?  Really, this one guy is going to make you work together now.  None of the Russians and agents Loki has already killed mattered, nor does the impending destruction of the human race, which would have included Coulson, mean enough to get them to work together, but some bloodied up trading cards did it?  WTF?

I found those two parts of the movie to be problematic for me personally but if I missed something feel free to let me know. Out of curiosity what didn't you like about the movie?

Wow, you really didn't get the Thor stuff at all.  Wow, you also did not get the Phase 2 stuff either.  I have problems with this movie, but those 2 things fit everything perfectly.  I did not like this movie as much as you did, but those 2 points that you are complaining about make sense completely.
