Tony Gilroy's 'Bourne' spin-off 'The Bourne Legacy' is a hot property in Hollywood right now, with a small fleet of actors all vying for the role and chance to participate (even barely as it may be) in the hit franchise. In a recent development, there are rumors circulating that Universal Pictures has extended an offer to Jeremy Renner ('The Hurt Locker') to star in the high-profile film.
Fans of the series will remember that "Jason Bourne" was actually just a cover identity for Matt Damon's character David Webb. In the book version of 'The Bourne Legacy', Webb is faced with someone who can almost preternaturally track him and guess his next move. However, producers have reportedly decided that the movie will forgo the plot of the book, and will instead head off in it's own direction with a new actor in the lead role as a wronged Treadstone operative who must take on the identity of Jason Bourne to clear his name. The hope is to create a new franchise set in the same world as the original trilogy, but not the same characters (and likely some kind of tie-in if the new series turns out to be financially disappointing).
Renner can be seen in this years action-comedy 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters', as well as playing Clint Barton aka "Hawkeye" in Marvel's 'The Avengers'.

Comment by Elvis Dingeldein on April 7, 2011 at 12:34pm This is just another "reboot" into a known brand that has almost nothing to do with original source material and it's getting so old. When I was a teenager, the first two Bourne books absolutely blew me away (the third absolutely sucked balls, as did most of Ludlum's books after Supremacy); they were the standard by which I judged thrillers until Clancy came along and until he started to suck balls (and I've met that guy, and he may be the biggest dickface on earth; suck it, Clancy! Also: Listen to the commentary track on THE SUM OF ALL FEARS. He couldn't be a bigger jackass.).
Would I watch a slick, smart Spy Thriller starring Jeremy Renner without the Bourne brand? Absolutely. Does the Bourne brand make me less likely to buy into another franchise reboot just because they're trying to tickle my Ludlum Hole? Yes. So why, Hollywood, WHY? Just make an original series starring a new and original character, for Christ's sake! Or just go ahead and call it The Bourne Rebooting, since the name is all that matters anyway.
Comment by Carlo Von Sexron on April 6, 2011 at 5:45am they have already crapped on the books with the first 3 movies (but they were good movies)...so whatever...bring it on..
if it's good it's good...if it's bad I´ll just ignore it.

Comment by John Lemus on April 5, 2011 at 11:10am I can see Jeremy Renner doing this very well. He has been putting out some great quality performances recently. Though I will say he is going to have to shape up physically to play Jason Bourne. That is a probably going to be his most demanding role.

Comment by The Dork Knight on April 4, 2011 at 9:45pm IF its Jeremy Renner....than I'm interested and all for it.
Infact I will be excited if it becomes official. Otherwise I'll go back to a facepalm.
