Allan, Dane of Thrones posted a statusPremiering in time for Comic Con, Lionsgate Films has released a brand new look at their rebirth of the Judge Dredd franchise, simply called 'Dredd'. Starring Karl Urban as the Clint Eastwood-inspired Judge Dredd, the film takes place in a irradiated wasteland version of the future in which mankind has gathered into the giant Mega City One. The new clip shows off a very specific plot device of the film, namely a rampant street drug called (aptly) "Slo-Mo" because it allows it's users to experience reality at a fraction of it's normal speed. So, before you Spillios get all "BURN THE HERETIC!" over the slow motion shots, just keep in mind that this isn't the overused and unnecessary Zack Snyder kind of slow motion - this actually serves a purpose in the story and could actually make for some cool 3D shots. Check out the clip (and accompanying plot synopsis) below:
During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

Comment by Chris on July 17, 2012 at 1:23pm Gotta say, I think I want to see this when it comes out. Of course even before this red band trailer I kind of wanted to see it. I thought Karl Urban would make a good Judge Dredd.

Comment by Ronald Ray-Gun on July 16, 2012 at 8:24pm I don't see what the big deal with the slo-mo is. The first Judge Dredd had plenty of it, but only when Stallone said the word "law".
