BEST OPENING SEQUENCE
7. Midnight In Paris: Very relaxing and beautiful cinematography.
6. Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol: Cartoony and jaw-dropping.
5. Hugo: Opens with a long shot through a paris train station up to a magnificent clock-tower. Stunning.
4. The Tree Of Life: If you didn't know this was a Terrence Malick film going in, this will tell you. That can be a good thing or a bad thing for people, I loved it.
3. Drive: Hmmm, let's meet the Driver....
2. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo: It is mind-blowing what they do with Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song'. The images are so cool.
1. And the winner is.... Melancholia!
This film did for Richard Wagner's 'Tristan Und Isolde' what 'Apocalypse Now' did for his 'Flight of the Valkyries'. Von Trier, you are a modern artist, (when you aren't mutilating the hell out of a woman's genitalia).
SADDEST MOMENT (may be spoilers here)
5. The Help, (the final scene): I think she will be all right, well, maybe...
4. I Saw The Devil, (don't open the door): The actual scene is hard to watch, but the images that follow are simply tragic and are on par with the end of 'La Strada'.
3. The Descendants, (goodbye, my love): A deeply saddening scene, but it remains moving and honest at the same time. One of Payne's most brilliant scenes.
2. The Artist, (the fire): The people in the theater actually got pretty sniffy during this scene. Okay, so did I. Especially when you see the footage reel he was holding... *fuck, its getting to me now...
1. And the winner is.... Drive (knock, knock)!
I really haven't seen anything that has made me cry so hard since 'Atonement'. It took a day for this scene to settle in my soul, and I basically broke down when I listened to 'Real Hero' the next day. Call me a pussy if you want, I am proud of shedding tears, especially to a film so great.
