1. Inception - do I really have to explain this? I mean it's by no means perfect, but it's definitely better than everything else this year.

2. Kick-Ass - Hey what can I say, this was a pleasant surprise, I really went into this thinking it was gonna be super lame and loved it. Thought the action was great, even Nick Cage wasn't bad. And that says a lot.

3. Toy Story 3 - I know what you're thinking, "Toy Story 3 was better than Kick-Ass!, idiot!" Well, I was really entertained by it. I think it's a great movie, don't get me wrong. But who can deny that it's a little too similar to the first two movies? There is some mix up with among the toys over whether Andy has outgrown them or
not. Woody is optimistic. No one believes him. He is separated from the
pack. Buzz becomes the new leader. Soon after, everybody realizes Woody
was right and they all have to work together to get back to Andy
safely. It also recycles a lot of the same imagery, like the creepy
baby doll that seems evil, but actually ends up helping them. Any of
this sound familiar? I sure hope so. And it took A LOT from the Brave Little Toaster too. The kid is going to move away to college, there's a mix up
where he loses some of his childhood things, they end up among other stuff which has been dumped by their owners and are somehow
mistreated. They run away and end up at a junk yard, nearly getting
destroyed. Ultimately they are reunited with their owner. I mean...I did like it, but come on, how can you deny what I'm saying here? It's just not original. I had heard years ago that this movie was going to take place in Taiwan because Buzz had been recalled and they'd be in a toy factory. I was looking forward to that. Instead I got this. I think #3 of the year is generous.

4. Scott Pilgrim VS. The World - Now this is originality. Even Inception was just a heist movie in the disguise of something really original (which you could argue is something like a combination of Ocean's 11 and the Matrix). But this...I don't know...it was just weird. It was great. It wasn't the best thing ever but the creativity and trippiness tipped the scales for me, and I also found that the humor worked so much better than any other comedy I've seen recently. I was very impressed and pleased.

5. Machete - Uh, not as good as it could have been for a number of reasons. Among them, too many villains, not enough Machete. But hey, few could argue that this was not Jessica Alba's all time greatest role. It was just "good." Not quite Planet Terror but way better than Death Proof and not even in the same universe as Shoot Em Up.

6. Salt - this movie wasn't good at all. It just wasn't as bad as the next two.

7. Hot Tub Time Machine - I really thought that the premise for this was so stupid that it would be the next Snakes on a Plane. I thought it was dumb on purpose and that we would get something creative out of it. But it wasn't. It was trying to be a regular comedy. And it wasn't funny.

8. Splice - figewiufg9fuyf4982ff3y23y3 worst movie. I have difficulty putting it into words. It's just...one of the most frustrating and unenjoyable watching experience ever. I'd rather watch the human centipede in 3-D than rewatch this again.
