Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Making a Gangster Film

In their first collaboration since 'Dogma,' Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are joining forces to bring the story of one of New England's most notorious gangsters to the screen. Affleck will direct, co-star in, and produce the story of Whitey Bulger, upon whose life a portion of 'The Departed' was actually based, with Damon in the lead role. The script is set to be written by 'Boardwalk Empire' scribe/creator Terence Winter. Ben's brother Casey Affleck ('Gone Baby Gone,' 'Ocean's 11-13') will appear in a supporting role. Affleck states that he and Damon have been searching for a project to work on together for years.

The tendency here is to immediately make jokes, because that is indeed what we do, but honestly this sounds like a great project for all involved. The last time Affleck and Damon collaborated like this we got 'Good Will Hunting,' which is an absolutely phenomenal film. Affleck has proven himself to be a damn good director with 'The Town' and 'Gone Baby Gone' while Damon has been establishing himself as one of the best actors working today. Casey Affleck continues to surprise and impress me with every performance so I am very much looking forward to his involvement as well. But almost as exciting as the reteaming of Affleck and Damon is the fact that Terence Winter will be writing the film. 'Boardwalk Empire' is like candy for fans of organized crime stories and I can't wait to see what he does with another gangster story based on actual gangsters.

What do you guys think? Are you excited about this project?

@stalksthemoon...i know what it said. Just a bit of wishful thinking. Honestly though, I dont think he was that good in The Town(not bad either)...just the movie was so good, he would have had to go out his way to fuck it up.

It was given from the start...2 Boston boys, wanting to work with eachother again for years...now have an excellent story to bring to the screen. Why wouldn't they?

Ever since Gone Baby Gone I've looked forward to anything Ben Affleck directs, plus his acting is a lot better now even when he's not directing...Matt Damon though? When ISN'T he good? Seriously he is a damn good actor...I just saw the trailer the other day for "We Bought a Zoo".....he makes a damn movie about a zoo look awesome!

So yea, you can bet your ass I'll be seeing this asap.

@Samantha Hill: I guess you could say that.  Although they only had a small part in that movie.

I thought their last collaboration was Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

I was just thinking about this about a month ago. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, along with Casey Affleck all in the same film together. I'm definitely looking forward to see this. Also throw in Jeremy Renner in too. He did a fantastic job in The Town.

I'm looking forward to this even more than I am to Argo.
