Beautiful Hi-Res Character Images from Pixar's 'Brave'

While the world seems to be divided on Pixar's next animated film, 'Brave' (due to the critical disappointment in 'Cars 2' and persistent rumors of behind-the-scenes disagreements after Disney's takeover of the company), there's no debating that at the very least it will look incredible. Pixar has always strived to maintain an interesting look for their characters and worlds, and it seems that 'Brave' will be no different. Disney has released a new set of wallpaper images that show off the main characters from the film, and we've collected them all here for you (click them for full-size):

And, if you haven't seen it here is the incredible Japanese version of the trailer, which honestly does a much better job of selling the film than the joke-heavy US marketing has been doing:

Looking forward to this, I really wan't it to turn out not just good but great. Hope they don't mess up the the theme of female independence and make it preachy or opt for an easy way out without properly exploring the subject like what the second half of what Wall-E did with it's message.

@Mark

While I agree with you about Shaw. Two-Face has been in films before. Both as Harvey Dent in Tim Burton's first Batman movie, and later in as Two-Face in Batman Forever.

Pretty sure I'm done with you. This is no longer amusing enough to spend time on.

Are you serious.  The 3 guys I stated in depth was a joke.  I even stated that it was bullshit after I stated it.  What?  I'm saying that anyone can find a bullshit metaphor for anything to prove their point.  And you could'nt even find the sarcasm of the ridiculusness I spewed.  Listen. A determined hero does not give me any idea on what this hero is suposed to be aside from being generic and about her hair, are you kidding me?  Its the same in every clip we've seen of her.  Thats why I stated the comment about the sky and her bow position.  It's easy to find something and claim it means something, unless someone calls you out on it.  And you say I'm spinning bullshit?  You just claimed that a hero looking determined is a trait that tells you about someones character when most heroes look like that, and that her hair being unkept, though she's a princess, (which wasn't even brought up in the teaser I might I add), means that shes independent..... even though she has been galivanting through a forest with wind gusting at her face and hair on a horse.  Look.  You're buying your own con. Thx for proving my point about bullshit metaphors and symbolysm.  And come on man.  "If you know Batman or X-men, you should be able to recognize these villians?" Are you kidding me?  Unless you read comics, or watch the cartoons you would not know who Shaw or two-face is at all.  They've never been in other movies.  And even if people did know them, like I said, they are barely in the trailer, Shaw isn't even mentioned until he is standing next to frost, which you consider being "referenced".  Listen. A small clip during a montage of clips in a trailer is not being referenced.  Sorry.  "A good trailer is supposed to highlight the main protagonist and their obstacle in the movie"  Yea, because an average appearing guy who is introduced to the protagonist and a dude standing next to a sparkly girl really expresses to people that they are going to be an obstacle and who they are.  you are actually going to stick with that.....Just to prove your point. You are now straight up sounding stupid, just to keep up your previous foolish comment about how a trailer should not focus on one aspect of it.  When you should know by now while writing these newer comments that they are dead wrong.  These trailers FOCUS on one thing only.  Batman vs. the Joker because thats all people care about.  And Magneto's relationship with X, because thats all people care about.   And to actually have the nerve and ordasity to try and justify the two trailers of not having two-face or shaw in them by pointing out the fact that they are minor plot points in the movie is sheer insanity, when you haven't even seen Brave yet.

First of all, the internet won't punish you for splitting up your paragraphs in to manageable pieces.

If you want a word for the look on her face as she is confronted by the bear in the last few seconds, I'd go with 'Determined' not 'serious'. If you want a simple physical aspect of her appearance that give you a clue to her disposition in general, look at her hair. It's clearly, in a word, wild or unkempt; a pretty blatant disregard for the expected level of care a lady, especially a princess, would be expected to put into looking presentable. That may not tell you something as direct as her being a free spirit or w/e you might want to call it but it does hint at an independent nature at the least, as does the fact that she is exploring in the woods alone.

As for some other things, the blue sprite creature and the ruins tells you there is magic in this world and the sweeping view of the castle tells you the time period this is framed in is medieval, as well as informing you she (or her family) are likely of importance (as does the quality of her dress).

Are you really going to try and make those 3 guys in the clip trailer into deep and interesting characters? As far as that piece of film cares to show they are little more than hyperbolic caricatures of a shy introvert, a narcissistic perfectionist and a apathetic spaz. There is no depth to them because that is not their purpose. I find your use of the terms geek and nerd as descriptors completely bat shit, they have no perceivable qualities that are nerd-like or geek-like. If the playboy didn't care about excellence he would not react to animatedly to a nearly perfect shot. You're spinning bull shit for the sake of bullshit to try and straw man me because you think that is what I was doing to you. and you can't even do that very well.

It's not all about total amount of story or information conveyed, it's about the efficiency either clip does it with. The teaser tells you more about the movie's world/setting for the time it spent to show it to you that that 3rd clip did per time it spent. Same goes for characterizing the main protagonist, the teaser uses no character dialogue and a few seconds of action. The latter used several lines of dialogue her arrow shooting sequence that does indeed give more depth than the teaser, butt little more than initial trailer with a more varied focus did and in my opinion, more than needed for a trailer. The teaser did more for introducing your to the movie considering the time spent doing so.

As a side note, anyone that didn't know Two Face would probably be a thing in Dark Knight from the trailer alone did not know what the name Harvey Dent meant, especially considering you see him with half his face pressed onto a gas soaked floor. Again, if you knew anything about X-men, you would have recognized Shaw in the trailer, if only because of the more popular Emma Frost that appears next to him and their history.

A good trailer sets up the story, the world and theme, as well as highlights the main protagonist and their obstacle in the movie. Consider for a moment that Two Face is a minor character in the much larger confrontation in Dark Knight and that Shaw is only part of the larger issue mutant kind is about to collide with and it makes sense that they are not focal points of those trailers, but still referenced.

In the case of Brave, I simply find it a bad design that the teaser performed the trailer's task better than the actual trailer did.

@Zen  Please stop bullshitting.  What you stated about the first two trailes makes no sense in the context in which you are stating them.  As for you complaint on the last trailer, you are pretty much just stating that a real trailer should be the opposite of what that last trailer was and your reasoning makes no sense again.  Your giving generic artistic responses that make no sense in context thinking that people that are not casual movie goers will fall for it.  "Appearance and actions always convey more than words"  That makes sense if she was conveying some sort of emotion in her face like anger or excitment or fear or jestures in her body like the trembling of hands.  All she did was look to see who was comming, pull out a bow and shoot while she looks serious. The generic look of a generic hero. "It sets up the world well with the animation" It only show us a bluw glowing light and a structure of stone tablet while she is riding on a horse.  The animation gives us the idea of mystery while the horse gives us the symbolism of adventure. It told us nothing about her herself.  Aside from the fact that she is on an adventure.  You give generic lines that are fallback excuses to prove ones point to knowing what is in a film when has no real proof for his opinions.  You might as well have added that "the sky was grey, which suggests a more drab depressing setting.  And she cocked her bow at an angle which tells us that she is a liberated soul that likes to do things differently".  Come on man.  I could easily say that the third trailer shows more than what you are seeing.  Each guy that is shooting an arrow represents a different type of man.  The bumbuling nerd that is very awkwad with women. The fat geek that really doesn't care if he has one.  And the attractive ladys man who can get a girl to fall for him with the blink of an eye.  Also the positioning of each persons arrow represents something.  The fat guys arrow on the end of the target represents that he tends to be lazy and not to focus on anything.  The handsome guys arrow location represents conformety.  He practices just enough to be average and dooes not strive for excellence.  And the nerd kids prefect arrow was just for comedy.  You see what I did there.  Took simple aspects of the trailer and took what could be the most vauge and bland metaphors possible and made it seem like thats what the trailer was trying to say.  In other words, I was spewing bullshit

And a trailer should not show a single aspect of it?  Are you serious.  You just stated the opposite of what the third trailer did to prove your point, when thats what all trailers do.  Since when does a trailer tell you everything that goes on in a film instead of just the main dramatic point.  X-men first class never even brought up Shaw in the trailer.  Kung fu panda 2 trailer never stated anything about his search for his parents or that he had any.  The dark knight trailer never even gave us the idea that 2 face even existed.  a trailer generally gives you one point of view of a specific aspect of the movie they want to advertise to you.

@Mark

If you think the trailer tells you nothing, you aren't paying much attention. It sets up the world quite well with just the animation, regardless of the dialogue. Merida doesn't tell you anything about her self through speech, but she does in the few seconds at the end, appearance and actions always convey more than words.

The 2nd trailer tells me little more than than teaser does about her honestly. It informs me not just that she is good with a bow, but exactly how good she is with a bow; as well as the specific situation that likely instigates the main plot. It however does not tell me much about who she is as a person in those minutes than those few seconds in the teaser did.

The trailer should aimed for breadth of information so you know what you will be watching, not depth of information about a single aspect of it. In terms of the time spent to convey information and theme, the teaser gets more across for the time it spent to do it. Also, it evoked more emotion imho.

So much better than the American trailer. I've been excited about this movie since hearing about it. Love strong female characters.
