If it's crap... We'll tell you

Over 10 years ago, Quentin Tarantino began work on a titleless script about WW2. He proclaimed that this was the best script he'd ever written, as you'd imagine, his fans were in awe. And one year ago, he finished the script writing the ovies title in pen on the front page. 'Inglourious Basterds,' spelled wrong for an unknown reason (which I have my thoughts on). Shooting began almost momentarily in order to get the film done in time for Cannes. And now here we are, Cannes is only a memory and the theatrical premiere has begun. But could this be as good as Quentin is thinking?

Short answer is...no. The problem with Quentin is that he was in his prime with his first two films, but i've never doubted him. Tarantino is my favourite director of all time, so when he announces a film, that he is saying will be his greatest ever, i came in my pants. But jsut because its not Pulp Fiction standards, it's still a fantastic film.

So the movie kicks off in Nazi-occupied France, with the Jew Hunter (Christoph Waltz) exposing an erradicating some jew, naturally. But one escapes and flees the scene. Over in another part of France we meet the Basterds led by Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) who takes charge of this Jewish-American outfit (take a good look at them because this is one of the only times you'll see them.) From here the movie dives head first into long streams of dialouge that almost seems like Tarantino is trying to parody himself, but then he does someting completly unique so its forgiven. The action is slim but when it hits, it hurts....not the audience...the ones being killed.

My first complaint and probably my biggest complaint is the lack of the Basterds, we get about five minutes. The movie should've been called "Revenge of the Jew" but I know how Tarantino likes his titles to be snappy. And theres are a few scenes that need your attention both listening and looking because of the dense conversations presented in subtitles. Quentin has really done his research here but I wish I could've seen what he thought was the best movie he'd ever make. I sat there with too high expectations, and would've probably given the film a low full price or something. But I remembered back to an interview I had read where Quentin said, "I am making this to promise you a great fucking night at the movies." And for that, I applaud him, because I had a great fucking night at the movies. So i've got to give this an EXTREMELY high Full Price. Almost better than sex, if only the basterds were more prominent.

Thanks for reading.

For me, I love the visuals and the great acting by Jackie Earl Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Patrick Wilson. There are other reasons, but these are the ones that stick out the most for me.
