The moment the avatar movie has been called out as a sure thing, being a huge follower of the series, I have been on the lookout on the what-goings-on.
Upon hearing that Mr Night is the director, I decided to be open or at least hopeful. He made the 6th sense after all and he wrote stuart little..maybe he can combine his powers from the rated R of the sixth sense, with the G rating of stuart little and come up with a very cool PG 15/13. So he could do justice with the action sequences, but still make it something the kids can also watch, with their very cool older siblings...hahahaha.
Then came in the cast:
Noah ringer, nicola peltz, Jackson rathbone to play the avatar, katara and soka. At first I thought, these kids are just sooo uuuhhhhh, not exactly how they are portrayed in the series. Still, maybe he has a different vision.
But Jesse McCartney as Zuko!!!! I mean I choked!!! why???!!! Zuko is a hot, sexy voiced, conflicted, angst ridden teenager. Not a pop song singing blonde, happy guy!!!! I mean, I have some of Jesse McCartney's songs in my ipod(yeah whatever), but can you imagine him saying "the avatar is alive!!! I want you to find him, and I want you to end him?" without you ending up laughing? can you?
Finally, the newest piece of news was that Admiral zhao is going to be played by Jason Isaacs...now I definitely have to put my foot down.
Mr. Night if you really watched the series, I am sure you will notice from where the influences of the characters are drawn.
Earth kingdom is of chinese influence
Fire nation has also the eastern asian, kind of samurai
Air Nomads were built like the tibetan/indian monks
Water tribes were obviously eskimo
Jason Isaacs can be a great villain no doubt, but there are many equally brilliant asian actors. Not only to play admiral zhao but also the other roles that make up the world of the avatar.
I personally think Chow Yun Fat would even make a great admiral zhao or Lord Ozai. His performance in the curse of the golden flower, as some freaky emperor was great...why not him?
