I've been looking forward to this one for a long time, I love the movie version of Watchmen. The directors cut only makes it better, not to mention this is a 3-DISC Blu-Ray! Granted that 3rd disc is just the digital copy of the movie. But on with the review!

Let me start by saying that the directors cut
IS the superior version of the film without a doubt in my mind. It's way better with those 24 minutes put back in. It's great footage that really should be seen by anyone who was a bit critical of the theatrical version. (Just to be clear, the directors cut is the ONLY version of Watchmen you can get on Blu-Ray.) Even if 3 hours is a bit long, its certainly not a boring way to spend it. So yeah, see the directors cut.

The picture quality is beautiful on Blu-Ray, but I'm sure you knew it was gonna look really good. It's not so good that it hurts your damn eyes, (cough cough Casino Royale cough cough) but its pretty impressive. The wide shots of the city look downright awesome, and the Mars scenes with Doc Manhattan are stellar. There's not much to not like about the video quality on this Blu-Ray. Also, all the special features are in HD! Hooray for nerds!
Now I would make a comment about the audio quality here, but I really don't have a good sound system to work with it. But I'm sure its fantastic on some 5.1 sound system or whatever.

Now your paying extra for those other two discs, so whats on em? I'll tell ya whats on em. There's three featurettes on the disc and a lame music video from My Chemical Romance. Mind blowing isn't it? That's a disappointment to me, but the are kinda cool featurettes. The first one is all about how Watchmen was created and how it changed the comic industry blah blah. Most of that is stuff you could look up on the internet for free, but it is pretty interesting to watch. The second is about the psychological aspects of real vigilantes, and how it ties in to Watchmen. Like the last one its mostly stuff you can read up on for free. The last one just seems to slip my mind while writing this review. I think it was about designing a futuristic world or something like that. Not the best 2nd disc out there.
Oh yeah, I have no idea how that digital copy thing works, as I have no portable device to handle it on. Sorry.

Damn that was a long ass paragraph. So, if you liked the theatrical version, your gonna love the directors cut. If you didn't, this cut might be good enough to change your mind. The special features are just okay, and a digital copy is good if you have an iPod or something like that. But the video and probably audio are so good, its worth buying.
So buy it, buy it I say! Thanks for reading my review, I hope you enjoyed it.
