'Attack The Block' Director To Helm 'Snow Crash'

Joe Cornish ('Attack the Block') has finally chosen his followup project. He will write and direct the big screen adaptation of Neal Stephenson's sci-fi novel 'Snow Crash' for Paramount. The novel takes place in a future society that is divided into corporation-run city states; leaving the task of ruling to private industry and the mafia. The lead character is a, I kid you not, computer hacker/samurai swordsman/pizza delivery driver out to stop the takeover of postmodern society. 'Snow Crash' is described as a cyber-punk story. No word yet on when production is slated to begin.

'Attack the Block' was, without question, one of my absolute favorite films of last year. I've been waiting, not exactly patiently, to hear what Joe Cornish's next project would be. I have not had the pleasure of reading 'Snow Crash,' but I'm somewhat familiar with it as my wife is a big fan of the book. Since she's the one who turned me on to George R.R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire,' I trust her assertions of 'Snow Crash's quality. The concept alone would be enough to draw me in. Sure, it's got that incredibly satirical dystopian future going on, something I always enjoy, but the very fact that the hero/protagonist, whose name by the way is Hiro Protagonist, is a hacker and a samurai AND a pizza deliveryman is awesomely absurd and I can't wait to see this plot unfold on the screen. My hope is that John Boyega, the breakout young star of 'Attack the Block' finds his way into the film somewhere.

What do you guys think? Any 'Snow Crash' fans out there want to weigh in on the idea of a movie? Is Cornish the right choice to direct?

Pizza Delivery Man for the Mafia. Do not forget that part. When they say thirty minutes or less they freaking mean it.

It is going to be nearly impossible to adapt Snowcrash into a motion picture. Maybe a 20 part miniseries but a 500 page novel that has the metaverse, the nuclear uranium firing "reason", the superfast robot dogs, The huge climax battle, etc into a 2 hour motion picture thats going to be difficult. However if he gets it right this will be one of the best science fiction films of all freakin time

@strange-benhur  I didn't say I hate his books. I overall really enjoyed Snow Crash, and I had a blast withe Reamde, and I also am planning to listen to Diamond Age sometime in the very near future.

@ Al Luo

I have no problems with the ideas that he put in the book, it is just that mass dump of exposition is what pissed me off the book, and he does it twice, I really hated that. that is not how you write good books. show, do not tell, or in this case, show it, do not read it.

to be honest I never found Hiro Protagonist really interesting. also do you realize that beside all the cool ideas in the book, like the story of babel and languages as viruses that rewire people's brains and the ability to speak in tongues, the book is in a way a parody on cyberpunk. if you listen to the review that Luke Burrage posted up, you would realize that is almost the same way I feel about the book.

I recently re-watched "Attack The Block" and hope this is just as good as that. The movie can have the humor that "Attack The Block" had and violence as well.
