If it's crap... We'll tell you

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal has picked up the film rights to the classic Atari video game Asteroids.

In Asteroids, initially released as an arcade game in 1979, a player controlled a triangular space ship in an asteroid field. The object was to shoot and destroy the hulking masses of rock and the occasional flying saucer while avoiding smashing into both.

Matthew Lopez will write the script for the feature adaptation, which will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

WHY? The game has no story, what's next? Pong? Tetris? Why can't we see a decent video-game based movie based on a game with great story? Like Half-Life or Metal Gear Solid or Mass Effect?

Now, folks, let's not just jump on this like we absolutely know what they're gonna do. For all we know, this could end up being a major blockbuster with a major cast. And it might speak out about global warming and stuff- Man, THIS MOVIE'S GONNA SUCK.

...Seriously? How are you going to make a movie around such a simple game? This is a waste of money. I can think of a dozen games I would rather see movies of.

Screw the petitions! In order to save Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from "suffering" at the hands of Postal, we must band together to kill the SON OFA BITCH director named Uwe Boll, forget doing anything else. Who's with me?
