Warner Brothers'/DC's long-gestating Justice League movie has made a series of waves over the last couple of months, most of which unfortunately turned out to be meaningless rumors that quickly washed away. Now it appears a ghost from the film's long and difficult past still looms. A "very good source" over at Moviehole is reporting that Armie Hammer ('The Social Network,' 'The Lone Ranger') is back in the running to play Batman in the upcoming superhero ensemble. I say back in the running because Hammer was the lead prospect for the role back when George Miller was set to direct. It seems Hammer's recent success has got the studio eying him yet again, though it is stressed he would only be playing Batman within 'Justice League' and not be spun off into his own new franchise.
File this story securely away in the "I'll believe it when I see it" drawer. As I said, so many rumors have been swirling about regarding 'Justice League;' the studio scrambling to gain solid footing on the project as they are repeatedly lapped by the output of Marvel properties. Remember when Ben Affleck was going to be directing? Or any other number of wild rumors? Let's play devil's advocate for a second and say that Hammer is in the running. I like him as an actor, I think he has tremendous screen presence, but I don't see him as Batman. There's not much of an edge to him as a performer and I think that will hurt his chances of actually securing this role. Also, this idea of casting a Batman solely for the JLA movie and not allowing that actor to then helm the new franchise once again demonstrates why the DC filmic adaptations lag behind those of Marvel. That line of thinking does not allow for an expanded universe or even a sense of overall character continuity. Oh well, that could be a crock as well. I'm not saying it's not possible that this is true, all I'm saying is take this "report" with an enormous grain of salt.
What do you guys think? Would Hammer make a good Batman? Should the JLA Bats be confined to just that movie?

Comment by Charles Foster on October 10, 2012 at 12:36pm IDK... He seems more like Superman to me. Maybe WB are looking at him for that? He was on the MOS shortlist so I suppose there's a screentest around somewhere...
Comment by dr Daterape on October 10, 2012 at 12:22pm MICHAEL FASSBENDER , sorry, but he has the physique and acting chops for it , but t his guy seems like a viable choice as well ^^
Comment by Luke Hero on October 10, 2012 at 10:34am There are a lot of great actors including Carl Urban that could play batman....Jon Hamm would be a great Harvey Dent...I would like them to expand the relationship between Bruce Wayne & Dent in the reboot of Batman....Making it all the more tragic when Dent turns into Two Face...
Comment by nerdilicouse?! on October 10, 2012 at 9:17am @Darth_Sidkel I CANNOT believe I didnt see it BUT YES, let Carl Urban take up the mantle of the Bat! I want to push for this
Comment by mikey appel on October 10, 2012 at 8:24am I think that If you just make one real good JL movie that kicks ass then you dont need a contnuim. Cause it will be a one time thing and sometimes when time passes it may make the move better..or not?
Comment by Chad Posey on October 10, 2012 at 6:29am He looks like a kid, just can't buy him as Batman, but also DC is just not getting this at all. They have the rights to all their characters and they are just looking at the money they could possibly make instead of figuring out why exactly marvel is pulling in the money they are. Stop trying to rush this shit, and start a fucking plan.
Comment by C.H. Gorog on October 10, 2012 at 2:04am I think he would make a great Batman. Frankly, I wasn't amazed with Christian Bale's performance as Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight or The Dark Knight Rises (though he was good in Batman Begins), and I can definitely see Hammer taking up the cowl and delivering a different type of Bruce Wayne/Batman (hopefully one without that silly-ass voice that Nolan and Bale refused to get rid of).
