Antoine Fuqua, director of 'Training Day', has signed on to direct a yet-untitled biopic of the legendary Tang Dynasty concubine Yang Guifei. One of the "four famed beauties" of ancient China, Yang had a love affair with 8th century Emperor Xuanzong. The $30 million Chinese-Language film has been in development for 2 years. The script is being finalized and casting is underway, though no word yet as to who will play the famous concubine. Production is set for later this year in the hopes of a 2012 release date.
This historical foreign language love story is a risk for Fuqua whose filmography consists mostly of action films like 'Shooter', 'King Arthur' and 'Tears of the Sun''. Fuqua is currently in pre-production for a biopic about rapper Tupac Shakur which is expected to begin shooting this summer.

Comment by CHEEZYSPAM on March 29, 2011 at 8:34am @Alice Wilson, yeah just like Happy Birthday Roboto said, I didn't like the X-men movies as a whole (however I did enjoy X2 purely as an action movie, but in no way an X-men movie)
I kinda sorta understand what Singer was doing? I guess... but it just didn't work for me. I know their comic book costumes would have looked silly, but dressing them all in the same black and bland leather suits with no individual personality didn't sit well with me, just lazy design. Storm and Cyclops were given NOTHING to do. Rogue's character was completely changed for no reason and the Ice Man love interest was so random.
I thought they did a great job with casting, but the whole move was misguided. You could hand pick any of the characters and place them along side that G.I Joe movie and you wouldn't be able to tell any difference.

Comment by The question ? on March 29, 2011 at 12:32am asians are only intresting to hollywood if they can do some kind of physical performance, wheather it be martial arts, geisha dancing, sword or gun fighting. I look forward to the day when films are being made in america about average joes and janes that just happen to be asian. I'm sick and tired of ever everyman character having the smae exact look and race. Bradley Cooper, matt damon, brad pitt, george clooney, and the list goes on and on. America's supposed to be a melting pot yet none of that is reflected into our movies.

CHEEZYSPAM has a mad on for Bryan Singer, don't worry about it, I think he's an excellent director.

I don't think Fuqua is a one hit wonder. Tears of the Sun isn't bad, and he certainly has talent. I think the whole reason he wants to do something like this is so he can actually be considered for good scripts, not just action/crime-oriented scripts. He's trying to branch out, I can dig that.
Comment by CHEEZYSPAM on March 28, 2011 at 2:50pm This director is just another example of the early in his career 1-hit wonder. He did Training Day. AWESOME movie... and has been riding that success with shitty movie after shitty movie.
Other examples,
Paul W.S. Anderson - Event Horizon
Bryan Singer - Usual Suspects
Robert Kelly - Donnie Darko
