Anthony Mackie In Talks To Join 'Captain America: Winter Soldier'

Comic-Con may be over and done with, but the superhero news has far from run dry. As Marvel begins to set in motion follow-up projects for all its box-office-friendly Avengers, an interesting piece of casting is in the works over at the new Captain America movie. Anthony Mackie ('The Hurt Locker') is in negotiations to join the roster for the Cap sequel, now called 'Captain America: Winter Soldier.' From the title, it seems the plot may follow a storyline from the comics involving Cap's supposedly deceased partner Bucky Barnes who is resurrected as an amnesic assassin called Winter Soldier. Rumor has it, though it is very much unconfirmed at this time, that Mackie may be up for the role of Falcon, one of comicdom's first African-American superheroes. The sequel will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo ('Community') and will be released April 4, 2014.

I love Anthony Mackie, the guy is a fantastic actor. It's interesting to me that he's (purportedly) being considered for Falcon. When the news made the rounds that Marvel was interested in doing a Black Panther movie, I thought he would make a great fit for that role. I don't know as much about Falcon as I do about Black Panther, but from what I'm reading, he sounds kind of badass. Hey, wherever they can squeeze Mackie into the Marvel universe is only going to be a boost for the studio, so good on them. I'm digging the storyline description for 'Winter Soldier;' a former friend coming back from the dead as a reprogrammed assassin? That's quite an intriguing setup for a sequel, though I am a little disappointed that it has nothing to do with the Starks.

What do you guys think? Is Mackie the right choice for Falcon? How do you feel about the studio going with the 'Winter Soldier' story?

I think he'd be a good Falcon but not for the Black Panther, he doesn't have the right build unless he adds another 15-20 pounds of muscle

This is great news, he's a very underated actor in my opinion.

I was kind of hoping Brian White would get this role but I think this guy would work.

We need more black super heroes.

@Korey's on vacation Plus, it's too soon to tell what angle they're going with Mandrin's story, cause something tells me it won't be word for word from the comics. I prefer the half-British, half-Indian Kingsley to, oh let's say Nicholas Cage.

@Herman - I believe he was trying to make a Game of Thrones joke (with the Winter thing?)

@Korey's on vacation Kingsley as Mandarin makes more sense than Johnny Depp as Tonto.
