Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic 'Noah' continues to enhance its aforementioned epicness. Russell Crowe will play our couplet-obsessed shipbuilder/animal herder with Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, and Ray Winstone rounding out the supporting cast. However, it seems this boat has room for one more major name. According to Aronofsky's twitter account, Sir Anthony Hopkinswill be joining the cast. He will evidently be playing the Bible's most famous senior citizen. Here's the tweet...
"i'm honored to be working with the great sir anthony hopkins. we just added him to the stellar cast of #Noah; #methuselahlives."
Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah? While I'm sure that can't be the highest of ego boosts for the great Hopkins, it is an outstanding piece of casting. According to the Bible, Methuselah lived to be over 900 years old, and died shortly before the flood that wiped all living creatures off the face of the Earth, except for those on Noah's ark...and the ones that could swim I guess. It's been a weird journey for this film already, and it's only in the early stages of shooting. The casting has been as turbulent as a storm at sea, with the likes of Liam Neeson and Liev Schreiber teased and then departing. I guess I'm somewhat more confident in this piece of casting news as it comes straight from the director's mouth, er, Twitter. There's a part of me that really hopes they treat the character as the Yoda of the Bible; giving young Noah advice and then wrapping up his long life by vanishing into the ether.
What do you guys think? Are you excited that Hopkins is coming aboard? At what point do you think this boat might be overloaded?

I'm not even slightly religious, and I think that this could potentially be pretty awesome.
Comment by The Glitch King on July 10, 2012 at 8:32pm I'll wait to see some footage of the film.
Comment by Charmingman93 on July 10, 2012 at 5:06pm Aaronfsky, make this as fucked up as possible and I will love you even more!! I actually realise that Black Swan tricking girls into thinking it was a chick flick (This happened in real life, believe me) was hilarious! Do this to people expecting it to be like the old 50s one's (bar someone like Demille of course) or as they'd think Evan Almighty and it'd be funny to see their responses.

Maybe it's because I'd really like to see another Cecille B. Demille/Ten Commandments kind of giant mega biblical epic, but I have high hopes for this one. With any luck, Aronofsky can rein in some of his more "out there" tendencies for this and deliver a must-see film.
Comment by Zgamer on July 10, 2012 at 3:09pm I would not imagine Arronofsky directing a Biblical epic. Hm...we will just have to see how it turns out. I am not a huge fan of his (Did not like The Fountain and I find other of his films good not great), but I will try to be open to it.
Comment by Jonathan Norgrove on July 10, 2012 at 2:14pm Great casting there. Interesting thing about Methuselah's name is that it means "When he dies, it shall come" or something to that effect, making his name somewhat of a prediction of the great flood. Anyway, cool stuff; can't wait to see it.
Comment by Seeker on July 10, 2012 at 1:25pm If it was any other director, I'd blow this movie off. But since it's Aronofsky, I wanna see it, and I really hope he doesn't turn this movie into another Fountain.
Comment by Boatloads1017 on July 10, 2012 at 1:20pm Still not sure how I think about this film, but it'll be interesting, I'll give it that.
Comment by Miracleman on July 10, 2012 at 1:13pm Darren Aronofsky is one of the few working directors today where I absolutely adore everything he's ever made. Add Russel Crowe, Hopkins, Emma Watson, and the Bible to that, and I can already smell the awesome.
Comment by Cman5000 on July 10, 2012 at 1:03pm i'm getting more and more exited for this movie
