Anthony Head Replaces Pierce Brosnan For 'Percy Jackson' Sequel

So they're making a sequel to 'Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.' Do with that info what you will. But it seems not everyone from the first film, based on the young adult series by Rick Riordan, will be returning. For the followup, 'Sea of Monsters,' the part of Chiron will be played by Anthony Head ('Buffy the Vampire Slayer'); Pierce Brosnan will not be reprising the role. Chiron is a centaur who heads up Camp Half-Blood, which is where demigods are trained. There has also been a change in the director's chair for 'Sea of Monsters;' Thor Freudenthal ('Diary of a Wimpy Kid') will be taking over for Chris Columbus. Yup, a guy named Thor is directing a film with mythological trappings. The young leads of the first film--Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, and Jake Abel--are all returning. In addition, Nathan Fillion ('Firefly') will be joining the cast in the role of Greek god Hermes.

So let me get this straight, first Fillion signs on and now Giles from 'Buffy' is replacing Brosnan? Is this Joss Whedon's take on Percy Jackson? I must admit I didn't see the first film, but that was largely because there wasn't a single thing about its concept or marketing that interested me. So yes, I am excited about Anthony Head and Nathan Fillion coming on board. It may sound fanboyish, but I wonder if this Whedon connection was intentional on the part of the filmmakers. 'The Lightning Thief' cleaned up overseas but didn't even make back its budget here in the states. Now the sequel is due out in 2013, long after the release of 'The Avengers' and enough time for Whedon to become well-known outside just geek circles. This may be a calculated move to up the domestic box office. Or it could just be a happy coincidence.

What do you guys think? Are you more likely to see the 'Percy Jackson' sequel with Anthony Head and Nathan Fillion on board?

Percy needs a reboot, not a sequel.

Yeah, I'm a fan of the books, I had really high hopes of them doing a decent job of adapting the series, but that ending on the first movie just killed any hope I had left. So yeah..

Yay.  See how happy I am?

It really is too early to burn this movie at the stake before it's even made or tell if this will be a turn in the right direction in regards to improving the franchise. For all we know Head and Fillion could be horribly mis-used or all of the writing and directing changes could make all the actors, even from the first movie, seem like gold. We'll just have to wait and see.

For the sequel.

I just watched Percy Jackson for the first time last night. It was not as terrible as everyone made it out to be. Of course, you have to make up your own damn mind if you like or dislike a film. The addition of Nathan Fillion and Giles is a definite move in the right direction.

You know, I can't help but think that  somebody at the studio asked this to an executive & got this response:

I think it's just coincidence, after all everyone ends up with a 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon link eventually.

Oh I heard this movie made over 200 million with a 95 mil budget, yep that is a reason why they are making this a franchise.

I was watching some of Firefly for the 1st time at work and it interested me...and man, i know people already said this, but if they make an uncharted movie Nathan Fillion is the man....everytime he was on screen i was like this is Drake!!!
