Another 'Texas Chainsaw' Already In The Works

Better make sure there's plenty of gas in the chainsaw, kiddies, because Leatherface isn't dead yet. Last week saw the release of 'Texas Chainsaw 3D,' the seventh film in the 'TCM' franchise, but the first since the rights transferred over to Lionsgate. Well before you could say, "unnecessary followup," Lionsgate has announced that they are moving forward with another entry, which they are dubbing 'Texas Chainsaw 4.' 'TC3D' earned over $20million at the box office and is responsible for finally knocking Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit' out of the number one position. The next film will again be produced by Carl Mazzocone, along with original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' masterminds Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper. No word yet on whether 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' helmer John Luessenhop will be retained as director nor when the studio is hoping to release the new movie.

Aggravating, but not surprising. I was actually on set for this movie, and I remember Mazzocone talking about how he had acquired the rights to do multiple films within this franchise, but I was hoping the abysmal end result of 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' would've put the kibosh on that agenda. How naive of me. I also let myself believe that $20 million wasn't enough to automatically guarantee a followup, but when the movie only cost $8 million to produce, I suppose that is a decent return on investment. So yeah, another contemporary 'TCM'...awesome. The biggest problem with the latest film is its awful script and laughably contrived story. My hope is that, if they really are hellbent on doing this, that they go in yet another completely new direction. Also, seriously Lionsgate? 'Texas Chainsaw 4?' By my count this is the EIGHTH film. I'm not going to sit here and sing the praises of 'Leatherface,' or  'The Next Generation,' but stick to the freaking continuity already. I know you patted yourself on the back as being the first direct sequel to original, but that woefully brief prologue callback created only a tenuous connection to Hooper's classic so I don't think you've earned the right to disavow the rest of the series. Also, even by your own logic, that would make the next one 'Texas Chainsaw 3.' You're erroneous even within your erroneous title. Good job.

What do you guys think? Anyone excited for another Texas Chainsaw? Would anyone like to defend 'TC3D?' Don't you think the numbering system is a little arrogant?
