Dear Mr James Cameron
G’day there. You don’t know me but boy do I know you. Your films have captured my imagination for the last 21 years. From Terminator to yes even Titanic I have loved all your work. Why am I writing this? Well Because I doubted you and I need to be punished.
When I first heard about Avatar early this decade I clapped, cheered and waited and waited and waited. Finally when that first trailer was released I was disappointed. I wasn’t one of the Internet tough guys who were spitting venom at this film but I felt like I was getting a broken promise. After everything you had said about it being the game changer, that this will be the best photo realistic CGI ever and basically our eye balls would be fucked I kind of sat back and said ‘’this isn’t the film I wanted’’. Nevertheless I was always going to be there opening day at Imax Darling Harbour. It took about 2 mins for me to get my words ready in my portable frying pan to eat.
This film is fucking amazing. The opening shot of the zero gravity quarters literally had me sit back slightly turn to my mate and say ‘’Why did I doubt him?’’. From then on I just let you work your magic. The majestic scenes of Jake learning to fly his winged friend or wildlife and forest life lighting up had me moved to tears. You made this world so believable to the point where I didn’t know what a practical effect was and what was made on a computer, well beside the obvious 12 foot Avatars. You went above and beyond my expectations in how this fictional world would work. I wanted to breathe in the air, I wanted to curl my toes in the soil, and I wanted to drink water from a leaf. When I walked out of the Cinema and saw the concrete city like Jake I wanted nothing else but to go back to living like a Na’vi on Pandora.
Sam Worthington does a pretty good job here. He still has problems sticking to an American accent but by the end of the film he’s more a Na’vi than a American or Australian anyway. You also made me do something that I have never done in my life and that was cheer for Michelle Rodriquez. She never went over the top with her tough Girl attitude that so many other directors take advantage of. Stephen Lang. Wow was he a great Villain. The last time I saw this guy was in Tombstone as Ike Clanton. Here he is a brick shit house that chews every scene he’s in and I loved it. Giovanni Ribisi was probably the weak point of the actors for me and I still think you should have cast Bill Paxton for this character but his story has little screen time that it really didn’t bother me. It was great to see you working with Sigourney again, who is still sexy in my eyes and judging by her performance I think the feeling was mutual. But the best performance of this film is Zoe Saldana. This girl was brilliant. Every single time she came on the screen I was sold. Her levels of emotion come through so perfectly and subtly that I was quite simply gobsmacked. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming... Okay that’s maybe a bit far but the work by both the actors and animators is so perfect that I’m just speechless.
So Mr Cameron let me say that I Christopher Grayson Porter am so very sorry that I ever doubted you. I feel a deep shame that I thought the man who made the T-800, the Queen Xenomorph, 20K lights work under water, the T-1000, Jamie Lee Curtis sexy as hell strip tease, and making the Titanic sink again would ever turn in a dud film. You truly are the King of the world and this film is Better than Sex. Now excuse me as I have some eating to do.

Regards,
Chris Porter
