'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Selects Its Harry Osborn

Over the last few weeks, Sony and Marc Webb have been working to get the cast in place for their 'Amazing Spider-Man' sequel. Namely, they have been looking for a young actor to play their version of Harry Osborn. They were looking at a number of performers, but it appears that their search is now at an end. Dane DeHaan ('Chronicle') has been cast in the coveted role. DeHaan also appeared in Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln' this year, and will next be seen in Atom Egoyan's West Memphis Three drama 'The Devil's Knot.' The official news story that accompanied the announcement of DeHaan's casting also confirms that Jamie Foxx will be playing the villain Electro in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2.' The movie is due in theaters May 2nd, 2014.

It's not always the case that I completely agree with a studio's casting choice for a given role, but Sony has made the right call here. Dane DeHaan could not be more perfect for Harry Osborn, and actually fits the comic version of the character far more than did James Franco. I think the troubled relationship with his father Norman, and the dark path that leads him to eventually be the new Goblin, is not terribly dissimilar from the arc traveled by his character in 'Chronicle,' and the complexity of his performance in Josh Trank's contemporary superhero film should serve him well in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2.'The kid's got tremendous screen presence and I can't wait to see what he does with this part. I'm also excited to see that we seem to have confirmation that Jamie Foxx will be playing Electro. Good choices all around, Sony.

What do you guys think? Do you like DeHaan as Harry Osborn? If not, who would have been your choice? What's you take on Jamie Foxx as Electro?

@Fungusmonkey-I just wanted to say that you are right when you said that Jaime Foxx can act his ass off and he will do a great job when he plays Electro in ASM 2, so people need to stop hating on him already, they did the same shit with Heath Ledger for TDK and look how good of a job he did in that movie!!!! He is gonna be the next great villain!!!!

As someone who understands story structure and character development Amazing Spiderman was a little better then Green Lantern but not a whole lot better. But the cast is great, but I've given up on Andrew Garfield, he brought absolutely nothing to Peter Parker they should've casted the guy who played Chronicle or Better yet the guy who played Kickass. But I love every casting choice they've made now if only they'll get a good script. The main reason I'm worried is because they got the guys who made Transformers. I like my superhero movies smart and dark not silly and not funny

@Max I never listened to the audio review for this movie. In fact, the 73% Tomatometer led me to believe that this movie would be decent. I don't think there are a disproportionate number of ASM haters on this site as compared to bigger websites (more "credible," as you would say); in fact, most of the people in the comments seem to like this horrible franchise, so I don't think your butthurt rant is really warranted.

guys like the people negatively commenting on this is exactly why the low credibility of this site is going even lower.  You're so convinced that this movie will be bad simply because you took the audio review for the first movie WAY to seriously.  ASM was WAY better than sam raimi's three turds and this sequel will further cement it
