'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Seeking Its Harry Osborn

Now that the Spider-Man franchise has been rebooted, and in many ways made a clean break from the Sam Raimi films, it seems the time is right to start bringing back into the fray more mainstay characters who played major roles under Raimi's reign. We already know that Shailene Woodley will be playing Mary Jane Watson, and we even have a fair idea that she'll be used more in the third film than she will in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2.' But what about Harry Osbourn? According to recent reports, it looks like Sony is looking at three potential young actors to take over the role that James Franco played in the original Spider-Man movies. Those actors are Brady Corbet ('Melancholia'), Dane DeHaan ('Chronicle'), and Alden Ehrenreich ('Beautiful Creatures'). The source is quick to point out that there may be others in the hunt, as the character continues to evolve.

Harry Osborn, kind of a big deal for future Spider-Man movies. First and foremost, I hope the story of Harry discovering his father's villainous alter ego and then effectively taking up the malevolent mantle is better handled under Marc Webb than it was under Raimi. I like a lot of Raimi's 'Spider-Man' and 'Spider-Man 2,' and I really like James Franco, but there was just something fundamentally unsatisfying about the way all that panned out. Of the three current prospects, my favorite by far is Dane DeHaan. I thoroughly dug 'Chronicle' and DeHaan was a big reason for that. He has a intensity that you don't often see in actors his age, and the angst he can bring to a role like this, or at least the angst he brought to 'Chronicle,' is genuine and not simply melodrama. It will be interesting to see how precisely Harry is used in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' and whether DeHaan fits into the script's character concept by the time it's finished.

What do you guys think? Which of these three would you select for Harry Osbourn? Don't like any of them? Ok, who would you go with?
