Amanda Plummer Cast In 'Catching Fire'

Things continue to progress on Lionsgate's cinematic adaptation of the second 'Hunger Games' novel, 'Catching Fire.' Francis Lawrence's highly-anticipated film, as he takes over for Gary Ross, has already landed Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman as new head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. Now it seems another well-established performer has been added to the roster. Amanda Plummer ('Pulp Fiction'), daughter of Oscar-winner and living legend Christopher Plummer, has just been cast as Wiress. Wiress, a former tribute and games winner from District 3, is called in to compete again during the Quarter Quell. She's a quiet, eccentric character who earns the nickname "Nuts" from her fellow tributes. However, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) recognizes her as a valuable ally. 'Catching Fire' is set to begin shooting in September to meet its November 22nd, 2013 theatrical release.

This is great news. I won't say I'm an expert on Amanda Plummer's entire catalog, but one of my favorite and most memorable cinematic moments of all time is hearing her screaming instructions to the patrons of the diner in 'Pulp Fiction.' That soundbite, that conversation, that performance effectively lights the fuse on Quentin Tarantino's unquestioned masterpiece. I also loved her in 'So I Married an Axe Murderer.' Those two performances alone should serve as evidence that Plummer is well-equipped to play a character known as "Nuts." I can't wait to see how she fits in with the world of the second story, the character description provides a taste, but without having read Suzanne Collins' books it's a bit difficult to line it all up. Here again, I turn to my trusted Spillios.

Is Plummer a good choice for Wiress? Without spoiling too much, how important is this character to 'Catching Fire?'

@BossMoss18 Philip Seymour Hoffman could have been a good Beetie/Volts

Hmm she'd work for Wiress not too huge a role until near the end, but Plummer looks like she can pull off crazy. Now It's been a while since I read the book, but honestly it all relies on who they cast for Beetie/Volts.

Great choice. I think that the Catching Fire movie might be able to wow more than the book(since it is my fav)

Yeah, I can see that. Good choice!

@ Lt. Commander Armstrong - This version of the Hunger Games has surviving tributes from the Games' 75 years added to the choices.
