We’ve heard talk several times of another Alien movie being tossed around - an idea that sounds pretty unappealing after we’ve seen how well the nemesis has developed over the course of the Alien vs. Predator flicks. About the only thing that would make me interested in another chapter of the extraterrestrial terror would be the return of the other staple for the franchise - Sigourney Weaver as Ripley.

Despite the character’s death in the Alien movies (and another movie after that death), Weaver seems to think there is room for another adventure for Ripley, stating “There’s definitely unchartered territory for Ripley.” in an interview with MTV Movies Blog. What’s interesting is what that uncharted territory might entail.

Weaver says she and original Alien director Ridley Scott have talked about returning for a fifth chapter, but possibly one that would move Ripley into another story altogether. “What we’re interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives.” Now that’s an interesting idea - how about making an Alien movie that doesn’t involve the alien - just Ripley’s adventures.

Weaver admitted she hasn’t seen the AvP movies, which makes her luckier than some of the franchise’s fans who were hoping for better. Honestly, I like what Scott and Weaver are talking about conceptually. Personally I think Aliens is the best in the series closely followed by Alien but I would prefer to see Ridley Scott returning to the director's chair and go back to point one. Many people would suggest James Cameron but I just want him to be concerned about Avatar and Battle Angel. Both of which I am eagerly anticipating.

So what do Spillers think? Good news - Bad News - Don't Care?

Why not? It worked for Indy. I mean, just because she isn't fighting xenomorphs doesn't mean the movie would be radically different. What if there was a Predator 3 with her in it? Or some new creature.

Really, all that the story would have to have would be Ripley, some malevolent species, and her being trapped in some confined space with said species. Honestly, while it seems like it would be tough to find as good a villain species as the xenomorphs, it's not impossible. Replacing the Ark of the Covenant with the Holy Grail didn't destroy the movie. Of course it wasn't as good, but it was still damn good.

Well i be dammed he is, but i never seen a show. But would you love to see all that money and enthusiasm on a alien movie caused we know we need that to resurrect the franchise. Can you imagined a 3D imax alien film with all the explosives and alien gore that we got in the sequel but with today technology and that is why i want Cameron in the director's chair. Hell he can come up with an original story since i think he wrote the screenplay on the sequel.

I'm actually a really big fan of the alien franchise. If you see the special edition of alien 3 its a lot better than the theatrical version. But really are they really embarrassed of how the series is going , you can't have a alien movie without an alien.I really don't want a reboot nor a punisher, hulk situation where they just erased the past movie and start over. You know the aliens on the ship at the end of alien 4 could escape somehow before it crash and i would love to see different aliens like the toys they made a while back.Come on don't you wanna see the flying alien queen, bull alien, gorilla alien, and of course the return of the dog alien.Just continued the series and please don't get any filmmaker to be involve with the film get a talented film director. We don't want more avp disasters we know fox got the money to get it done right.I actually would like to see James Cameron back if he could get off the titanic of course.

HOW ABOUT THIS CONCEPT........DON'T FUCKING MAKE IT

So if this was made what would be the title? It would literally not be "Alien" without aliens, so chances are if this was made, which I think it's in production (In production meaning Weaver thought it up, thus meaning it's in production lol) it would most likely be called "Ripley".

welcome to Siggy's imaginary world where she claims the sucess of the entire ALIEN series relies solely on her shoulders...
She's played this game for so long it's getting old. She did an amazing job in Alien, Aliens and yes, even Alien 3 (which gets more crap than it really deserves). Weaver WANTED her character to die in #3 because she was tired of playing the role... money talks and bullshit walks as we saw in A:Ressurection. Then she bashed the AvP movies because they didn't involve her.. all the while spewing rumours of her and Ridley Scott wanting to return.

IF they came back for an "alien" story they would try to explain the space jockey and how the aliens got there. (Both Weaver and Scott have expressed interest in this in the past) so while it wouldn't directly involve the aliens it'd be within the universe... I guess... but I doubt it'll ever happen.

That story doesn't work for me, there has to be aliens. What they could do is introduce a new breed of alien with entirely new look and abilities if they want something new and fresh. Incorporating her in an AVP movie to me would sound like a better idea than this, so what i'm trying to say is..this is not a good idea.

The last two Alien movies totally messed up the Ripley character. The AvP series totally demystified and destroyed the alien creature too. Only if they reimagined the Alien series from Aliens onward...like Alien III and IV never happened...continued the story with Hicks and Newt alive....those bad sequels were just a bad hibernation dream by Ripley....

wll it's good that they want to take the series in another direction nstead of milking it even further. Depends on which direction though.
