To catch people up, Alcatraz is a show about a FBI task force devoted to capturing escape convicts from Alcatraz prison. The main hook is these inmates have reappeared in the modern-day, untouched by time since their disappearance in 1963.

The main characters are Rebbecca Madsen, former LAPD investigating these inmates as one of them killed her partner. She is aided by Dr.Diego Soto, a renowned expert on Alcatraz. They were recruited by Emerson Hauser, FBI agent who was a local cop during 1963 and discovered the Alcatraz threat.

Originally I pointed out a problem with this show was that people might not like how it goes about giving you its mythology. It suffers from the same problem its predecessor LOST does as it puts character moments ahead of giving answer to mythology questions.

I'm not against that approach as I really liked how the characters were developed on LOST but on LOST having the characters not know a lot was justified given that knowing why there is a panda bear on a tropical island isn't a big priority on the main character's mind.  But these characters are on a task force dedicated to investigating this phenomenon so there should have been a briefing on something. I don't expect them to know everything but since this taskforce has been going on for years and two other members are affected by the phenomenon, so i expected them to know something.

Pretty much the main flaw of this season was that certain episodes were just filler and didn't really advance the plot by explaining any of the bigger mythology. We may know that there was time-travel involved but we still dont know how they got here or why they were brought here in the first place. People might be miffed that they waited so long only to be given so little in their eyes.

To be fair, we did learn a lot from the last two episodes about the main plot of the show and how characters tie together and are given new pieces to the puzzle. We now know what the phenomenon is and who is behind it. The question remains on whether or not we could have got this info sooner.

The fact that tommy madsen, Rebbecca's grandfather who is also to go-to guy between the cons and the big bad, could have been told shown to us sooner as well as the company run by Harlan Simmons. He was a former convict who became a billionaire and had a falling out with the big bad. This could have been shown earlier and built up better by having more appearances with the company.

That doesn't mean i didn't enjoy the finale as I'm hoping beyond hope we get a season 2 so i get to know what happens to the cast and whether or not the questions get answered.

I hope I'm not the only one.

Rating 7.5 out of 10.
