Regardless of our political views, we're all happy this election is finally over. However you feel about our new President,
Mr. Barack Obama, is totally up to you, but the idea of having an African-American president has never been an unimaginable concept. As far back as 1933,
Sammy Davis Jr. at just 9 years old played the President of the U.S. in a short film called
Rufus Jones for President. Granted, that film was full of ridiculous stereotypes, but I digress. It’s pretty sad to think that Hollywood embraced the thought of an African-American president before we did and maybe even predicted it with the casting of
Danny Glover in the upcoming film
2012. However, it did give us a few great ones that may or may not (more than likely the latter) have paved the way for Obama. Take a look!

Terry Crews as President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho –
Idiocracy

With a name like
Idiocracy, you know you’re in for a ride, and that’s definitely the case with Terry Crews as President in this movie. He delivers the laughs and has one hell of a sense of style, but holy hell would I be scared to have a guy like him run the country. Oh wait…
Chris Rock as President Mays Gilliam –
Head of State

Now, why does it have to take a plane crash to kill the President and Vice President to even get this idea started? Negativity is a bad thing, kids. However, he does speak out for what he believes in, no matter how ridiculous he gets doing so (i.e. hiring a KKK member to endorse his opponent), which in the end gets him the Presidency.
Morgan Freeman as President Tom Beck –
Deep Impact

Morgan Freeman is serious in just about everything he does, which is why he has the perfect tone and composition to portray a president. When there’s shit hitting the Earth, you need someone cool and collected to rule the country in order to devise a master plan to save life, and Freeman’s the person to do it…at least on film.
Dennis Haysbert as President David Palmer –
“24”

What a good, good man that David Palmer is. When things got rough in the U.S., people tuned into “24” because he was actually of sound mind and believed in his people. It was an ideal situation connected to a soothing, melodic voice, and in the end…we all secretly (some not so secret) wanted David Palmer to be the man in charge for real.
Tommy “Tiny” Lister as President Lindberg –
The Fifth Element

There’s nothing I love more than ironic nicknames, and “Tiny” Lister is a perfect example of it. He’s a huge dude and looks like he can rip off your head, which can be a beneficial thing when searching for someone to rule a country. In the dystopian future, you better make sure your president can kick major ass, and in this case, Lister does.
James Earl Jones as President Douglass Dilman –
The Man

Do you know why this is the perfect movie for James Earl Jones? Because James Earl Jones IS the man. He’s amazing and people know it. He will be cast as the leader (even as an animated lion) for many years into the future. How can people not take that stern, booming voice seriously? Oh, that’s right, they can’t.
