Horror fans will be quite familiar with the term "the final girl." It speaks to a grand tradition in our beloved genre of the strongest, or sometimes just luckiest, female character who makes it all the way to the end credits of a slasher film; women tending to survive horror films more often than men. Well it looks as if Abigail Breslin ('Little Miss Sunshine,' 'Zombieland') is next in line to be 'The Final Girl.' She will take the titular role in this Nasser Entertainment thriller about a group of feral teen boys who decide she will be the target of their final initiation. Too bad for them, she is not content to be a victim. Tyler Shields, a former photographer, will direct from a script by fledgling screenwriter Adam Prince. No word yet on when production is set to begin.

Feral kids are frickin' scary. I just saw a film at SxSW called 'Citadel' that reinforced both my fear of this horror subgenre and my decision to not have kids any time soon. I'm therefore interested in 'The Final Girl' on a conceptual level. I also think it will be interesting to see Breslin headline a serious horror film; I know they're calling it a thriller, but come on...it's called 'The Final Girl.' I mean sure, she did 'Zombieland,' a horror comedy, and one of her first roles was in M. Night Shyamalan's 'Signs,' but this will be the first straightforward scary movie in which she leads the pack, as it were. I'm not sure if I believe she can definitely pull it off, but she is quite talented. What concerns me here is that the film is being helmed by a first-time director who up until now was a photographer. The good news is, I'm sure he knows how to frame a shot, the bad news is Breslin is going to need a knowledgeable and competent collaborator to help her succeed in what is, for all intents and purposes, virgin territory for her. I like the idea, I'm just very concerned about the artistic team assembled.

What do you guys think? Are you interested in the concept of 'The Final Girl?' Do you think Breslin's right for the part?

@....Canucks & @Joshua

Relax fellas, I was just refering to the fact they call it "The Final Girl" which is self referential to the genre itself. That being said it has an opportunity to satire the genre, much like Cabin in the Woods. Sure I don't care for the horror genre and being cynical, I think it will suck, but that's just.....my opinion

I agree, feral children are frickin' scary. However, I've never been a huge fan of Abigail Breslin. I think it may have something to do with my questionable bias against child actors, but I never really saw what everyone else sees there.

That said, this is an interesting concept and I do want to see what she'll do in a more serious horror movie.

I also want to know where Cyberlink2 got the impression in this article that this movie is a parody... It doesn't say ANYTHING about being a parody.

Cyberlink2, you need to get to know the genre more, this is more Hack/Slash

Street kids, feral kids. They are all psychos, I have no pity for them.

This should be fun at least.

so a parody that wants to be on par, with the likes of Cabin in the Woods?

Sounds to me like we have all the ingredients for a real surprise, an unexpectedly good horror film.

Still it would be a good practise run for both first-timers =) It won't be easy, but if they can still make the movie work, I shall applaud them.
