Come on, any film with the word goat in the title is at least worth a rental.
The Men who Stare at Goats is a confused movie, it wants to be edgy yet it wants to be lighthearted, so what do you get, a funny, intresting film, with it's heart in the right place, but not smart enough to pull it off.
The film starts of saying, "trust us, much more of this story is true than you would believe" which is odd as we believe very little of it, actually we believe none of it, full stop. Which then the film then tries and gets you to buy in to the story, and wether you believe in it or not, you admire it, and you really enjoy it.
It's obvious that when you see the cast of this film, you expect some great acting, which you get. All the actor's here are great, they deliver they're lines with great timing and effect, which has you cracking up quite a few time.
The story is really a mixed bag though, with the story set in modern day being unintresting and just for comical situations, and the flashbacks being more comical and intrueging, it's a film that is creative, but is flawwed by one thing...
The film has no balls
It a tame movie, for a supposively dark comedy, it's decides to be cute, with its little miscivious score, and over use of Boston's more than a feeling, and of course goats, it seems the film has no backbone.
This is film could of been a cult classic, and may still be, but it's lack of trust in it audience holds it back, keeping as a lesser known and forgettable movie, which is a shame as it was a great concept and is overall a good movie, just never great.
MATTINE!
