Paranormal Activity 2, take the first one and throw a baby and a dog in there!
I wasn't much of a fan of the first one, it had horribly unlikeable characters, terrible acting and was rather over rated in the horror aspect. So why on earth did I got watch 2, well it looked scarier and whenever something is shrouded in mystery I'm automatically want to watch it. Plus with having a baby AND a dog in there, I was wondering if they had enough balls to really freak out the audience and kill one of those characters.
Don't worry, I won't have any spoilers by the way. Not that you need it, because it's the exact same movie, it uses the same gimmicks such as people getting dragged away and stuff, all in the same order as the original. Not only that the sequel just comes off extremely unnecessary, you get barely anything added to the overall story, you learn nothing before or after what happens in the events of the first film, and when it does, it adds very little and just renders as pointless as it stuff you never even thought off. I don't get me started on the end twist...
A big problem I had with the first one that really ruined it for me was the dreadful acting behind obnoxious characters. In this, the acting is better, but the characters are not, the main man in it, is probably the most ignorant man put on this planet, with all the weird shit going on in this film (especially when you've got a demon screwing with your child) you would try to do SOMETHING, at least try and get out the home (and don't tell me that the demon will just follow him, it might, but it's not brought up to these characters.)
But, at least this is quite scary. It shat me up a few times and quite a lot of the time I was unable to look at the screen because you can tell shit is going to go down. But thats not what made it "scary" for me, the original had it's parts that made me jump (though I never felt the need to look away at the camera in the original), but it never did as promised, it didn't make me have second looks when I heard a strange noise. But after this film, a sign slammed on a lamppost and it made me go for a slight second "Oh my god, it's the demon" and same when I was at home and the light started flickering.
So that's my moral dilemma at the moment, Paranormal Activity 2 is the same more as it predecessor (which I gave a rental) but is better, and more extreme in it's horror. But it has every single other thing I found in Paranormal Activity which made it crap. So for that purpose (and for the purpose of that if I watched this at home I would of had more enjoyment) I give it a...
