A Review of FANTASTIC MR.FOX, by me, EL FOGGY

I am now withdrawn from saying the word "Fantastic" from the review.

This film was better than I was expecting, like I was shocked by how good it is, this is going to make my list of best of the year, its that good.

It is a very funny, and sometimes touching film, I laughed plenty of times thoughout it, and it is never boring.

It is a very beautiful, due to its great art style and stop motion animation, at every moment the film seems to amaze you with it's amount of effort gone into it, one of the most inspiring scenes in the movie is going to have you in amazement.

All the voice actors in the film are great, ones that get honerable mentions are Willem Dafoe's Psycotic rat and Jason Schwartzman as Mr.Fox's son. But the stand out performance is Michael Gambon's jaded farmer Bean, it looks like he had fun with the evil character, and we have fun with him also, he so evil your happy when he gets his comeuppance every so often, yet you have so much fun with the character your happy when he gets his own back, but all the voice's are great.

And one thing I have to give it credit for is it mixture of American film-making with the Britishness of Roald Dahl's book.

The humor though is going to split audiences up though, as Wes Anderson is the king of quirk, the dry humor won't come across to all, and here is it's main problem, I don't think kids will enjoy it, maybe I'm underestimating the intelligence of children, but when I was a child I know I wouldn't be laughing at this stuff, and the children in the screen I was in, seemed very quite. Sure there are tibbits of slapsick but thats most of what the film offers kids, as most the film is very diologe heavy humor, but maybe I'm worng, maybe your children will love it.

Another thing I found supspicously odd is the constent chapter titles coming up at the top of the screen, and the many spaghetti western references it had, it seemed it made itself to be the childrens Tarantino film.

I loved this film, oddly so, I was expecting just to like it, but after watching it, I can easily say that, in my opinon, it's on par with Toy Story, dare I say it was fffffffffricking awesome.

FULL PRICE!!!

oh, here it is!
i didn't see it before
sorry about that

on par with toy story?
ooooooo.... i can agree with that
very different, but on the same level
George Clooney was my favorite of the voice actors, he was a perfect choice for Mr. Fox :)

so far we've got
UP
Monsters vs. Aliens
Coraline
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
9
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Astro Boy

This is the year of animation. Even though I have absolutely no interest in Astro Boy and Mr. Fox there are people who will greatly enjoy both, and 9 wasn't too good but it was visually amazing. The rest I have loved, and Up is my favorite of the year, as well as making it in my top 10 of all time

The animation in the trailer does look rather poor but once you see it in the feature legnth movie it looks phenominal.

I think had this been a completely original project that Wes Anderson had set out to do I would have no problems with it. However he has taken one of Britains most cherished childrens books (with out a doubt Britain has always produced the highest standard of authors) and completely ripped it apart.

Yes there is a Fox who is "Fantastic" and it does feature the 3 nasty farmers but apart from that it is pure "New Yorker"; long conversations, discussions of existentialism and characters with bizaree quirks. Children are simply not going to get this.

Put this up against Up! and its clear to see what film is going to win with the kids (and probably most of the adults too).

I think the point of the story has been completely missed and I think Aardman would of done a vastly superior job as they know how to make a film appeal to a broad audience.

I just wish Roald Dahls work was bought to the screen by Brits who probably have a better understanding of the text, would wish to remain faithful out of respectful to the text and also convey the humour on different levels so everyone can enjoy it.

I don't get it. what am I missing here? people are saying how cool the art is, and praising this mvovie, and all I've seen from the traielrs is a mountain of shit that's covering up a smaller mountain of shit. also I can't forgive these guys for the terrible stop motion. please. Aardman Studios has better animation than this.

still I guess to each their own. glad you thought it was good and worth paying for.

I've heard alot of good things about the movie, and the trailers I've seen so far make it look hilarious.

i like wes anderson, but i have absolutely no desire to see this movie. maybe if the stop-motion was better (Coraline-ish)

@Don Panini, if you didn't read it as a child then it won't mean much to you. This is one of those things that carries across from your childhood and leaves a great impact. This book was in my opinion Roald Dahl's best ever so I pray to god that this movie keeps the themes of the book. At least it seems to have achieved it.
