A Review of CIRQUE DU FREAK: THE VAMPIRE'S ASSISTANT, by me, EL FOGGY

You have to be freaking out of your mind to watch this movie.

I am struggling to write about this movie as I just watched it 20 mins ago and I am struggling to think of stuff to write about it, it's that forgettable.

The big plus in this movie is John C.Reily, he is quite good, I won't say he's excellent, but he does keep the movie alive for the most part, and about every scene he's not in, you long for his return. I can see him looking at this script at home and saying "well the film isn't very good, but I will have some fun with it, and at the end the pay check will be nice". He's full of anarcy, even though he's a goody, he seems to have a little evilness to him that keeps you rembering that he is a vampire, the only shame is the film keeps trying to shake this image off of him, just so we can root for him, but we're having so much fun with him, we already want him to succsed.

Other fine examples of actors in the film are;
Willem Dafoe, who I've recently mentioned in my Fantastic Mr.Fox review, as the slightly girly best friend to John C.Reily's character, it's a shame he only appers at the start and at the end.
Josh Hutcherson, who is the best teen actor in the film, though that's not hard considering the teen cast in this movie which I will get to later. The only problem with him is he's never given anything to tuly shine with.
And some fat slightly camp bloke who pops up some times and fills the screen with colour using his eccenticness.

Continuing with the colour theme, The film just ooze's colourful inventiveness just with some silly images in the background, now it sounds like a bit of a critism, but these parts are the most fun parts of the movie, as the plot struggles to keep your attention. So just looking at a midget who's head is about as tall as fat slightly camp bloke is wide is just what is needed.

But as I mentioned early the two big problems in this movie is, the teen cast, and story.

The teen cast, are mainly dreadful, the main kid has about as much chrisma as an ant, he's so bland and so unintresting, he can't act for shizzle, and his best friend is just the same. He is nether threatning nor sympathetic, he just comes on screen bitches, whines and then goes away.

The story is all over the place, all I made out of it was that the fat slightly camp bloke did something to a picture book to change somat about destiny, and some where along the lines he had to become a vampire, it's nocsense. While on the subject, the film is nowhere funny, or serious enough. It takes itself far more seriously than the trailer lets it onto, yet it far more serious than it has any right to be, When you have a midget with a tall head say "I'm going to ram my head up your ass" then you have little crediblity for me to take you seriously. It's odd because it does funny well. The film seems to try and shy away from what it does well.

The fight scenes are really hard to make out, it's full of quick cuts and shake cam, both of which are unneeded, it seems the finally sort this out at the end of the film.

But then, the film just ends, nothing really happens, just abit of a scrap and nothing gets resolved, it does leave it open to a sequel, but I could place money that this film won't make enough bank to result in another one, and this film won't create enough attention to grow in cult and get a sequel later on.

So it seems I manged to say alot about a film so forgettable, but once I slept tonight all trace will evaporate, but the film did keep me entertained for the most part, and saying that I wasn't expecting much from it, it was just a plesent piece of entetainment, that family's will enjoy, though it is nowhere near good enough to leave a lating effect on anyone, me exspecially.

Note: I wrote this review originally for my Journalism Class. We had to do a movie, music or restaurant review. Obviously I chose the movie review. My teacher encourages us to publish our work and get it out there so this is my attempt at that,...
