A foreshadowing of what to happen if the Green Lantern sucks!
It is as it is told; Buried is just Ryan Reynolds, in a box, for 90 mins. And it is far better than you could ever imagine. Buried is a 90 min heart bounding fest feeding on the intense fear Claustrophobia. One of the most underrated fears in the world today is being buried alive, and this film perfectly portrays how horrible a situation it is.
It's premise is basic enough, Paul Conroy is buried alive and has approximately 90 mins of air and a phone with half battery, he has no idea why he's there, nor who put him there, but must find a way quick before he makes his make shift grave his only one. Believe me, it's far more nail bitting and scary than it sounds, I think my nails started bleeding I was bitting so deep.
The film shows that minimal is key, to find something so simple, yet so effective. And find a way to keep it engaging and enthralling throughout is a difficult task to pull off, but incredibly suspenseful of done right. And this film shows.
A huge part to lend for it is Reynolds himself, who carries and entire 90 mins by himself. He is amazingly good, and will show how good an actor he is in this movie. This is his breaking out role, and it's easy to tell, he has you in the palm of his hand at the very start. He has moments of humor but in the right places, he is emotional wrenched throughout the film and as an audience you instantly latch to his character. He needs an Oscar nod for this!
The films only negative is it's filled with parts of filler, just to spruce up the runtime. There's a moment were Reynolds gets into a battle with a snake and it just feels like it's there to wake up the audience members and padding up time running up to the climax. Which keeps seeming to happen and then keeps running.
The film is edge of your seat stuff, I know the review is rather short, but I think its best that you know as little as "Ryan Reynolds in a box" in prepare for a hell of an intense ride, one of the finest this year by far
