A Review of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, by me, EL FOGGY

Christmas never came so early, Literally it's about 2 months away.

This story is known by so many, and has been adapted, retold and reimagined so many times, what could this possible offer that is worth watching again.

Well if anything, it's absolutly terrifiying, exspecially for a childrens film. It does a great job of creating really effective automosphere, and just having creepy visuals. If this wasn't a christmas film, I would of sworn it was halloween. The pro of this is that it's far closer to the dickens original than most companies could handle, and this is coming out of the hands of disney. The con of this, is that it's obviously too scary for little ones, so you will have to hunt down another festive film to get you all festive.

Jim Carrey is extreamly good in this, he defines Scrooge, an old tired grumpy old man, who is verging ever closer to death, and knows it himself, while being absolutly terrifiyed of what is going on around him. And he makes the ghosts absolutly spine-chilling.

While on the subject of perfecting Scrooge, the animation here is really good, they look like they have really put thought behind the design on him. He looks ugly and skinny, like a man who eats bearly little. But I can't sing it praises though, for all the extra's, and secondary characters, look really bland, and soulless.

And the huge problem is that while it stays close to the novel, it stupidly decides lets put some 3D thrill ride stuff in here, this happens quite few and far between, but when it happens and in the unrelevent places, like the segment where he is shrunk down. It almost makes a mockery of the darkest part of the story.

But when they get the 3D segments right, they really knock it out the park, the flying set pieces where you zoom around Victorian London are so well done, and is really how you should handle a 3D film.

While you may have seen this story so many times, it's handled really well here, wether you only go to watch it because of the 3D, for Jim Carrey, or just to introduce your kids to a classic festive story (I can't threat enough though, that some children might be really scared by it, I know I was), you can at least sure that you will enjoy it, so for that a really recommend it.
