12/08/1936 to 06/04/2009

I may never do this again but I'm going to quote Cumonass, "Sad day, sad day, sad days" and a sad day it is.
My dear spill members today is one of mourning for me. I awoke today, turned on CNN and what was the first thing I saw?... "David Carradine found dead in his Bangkok hotel room"...I had to do a double take when I saw that news.

Now, I think it's safe to say most of you guys on spill know Carradine from his Bill role in Kill Bill: vol. 1 and 2 or maybe you saw him in Dead & Breakfast. Or from the 1992 TV show Kung Fu: The Legend Continues (a show my dad use to watch all the time) or any number of his over 150 movies/TV roles.
But for me David Carradine is always going to be Frankenstein from Death Race 2000.

The first time I watched Death Race 2000 it was with my dad, one of them late night film you watch with your drunk old man. You know what I mean? I was 7 and Death Race 2000 was 10 different kinds of awesome. After that night I was hooked, it's funny, when other kids my age just play with their toys or doing their homework I was watching films like Cannonball!, Deathsport, Bound for Glory, Lone Wolf McQunde, Circle of Iron, and Boxcer Bertha. Anything with David Carradine's name on it in the video store I picked up and checked out. (maybe that's why I'm fucked up now?....huhm? oh anyways) Between the age of 7 through 13 I must of seen over a 100 different movies with him in it, but I've still not seen all his life work. (a true workhorse)

I couldn't really tell you why but after I turned 14 I stopped watching David Carradine movies. Maybe I just got burnt out on him, or maybe it had something to do with the fact that was the same year I begone getting into women...well I should say I was trying to get into women. wink, wink

So years past and I'm not going to lie, I almost forgote about David Carradine all together. That is until 2003 when the Kill Bill films came out. I went to Kill Bill with a group of my high school friends, and after it was over and we walked out all anybody could talk about was how cool the guy who played Bill was.

I was the only one who knew of and who David was. (a fact I took great pride in at the time.) I then began telling them all about Death Race 2000 and who Frankendstein is. So I took them back to my house and popped in my old VHS tape of Death Race 2000 (the same one I watched with my dad all those years ago) We all had a great time watching it, it was just as awesome as it was when I was a kid.

What else can I say about Dave, I can't think of another actor who had as big of an impact on my life then David Carradine. A man I never met, and now I never well meet him, but yet I still love. I'll truly miss you Dave and tonight I'm going to dust off my old VCR, hook it up and pop in that same old VHS tape of Death Race 2000.....
