The Thing (new one) isn't a remake, it tells the story of the previous scientists who uncovered the alien (the Norwegians and Americans).  It also does reveal new things about the alien and shows what it looks like in its actual form.  Me, personally, I think it looks excellent.

I bet it's broader than that. I bet it's because Carlyle is a conservative asshole and Cyrus is a gigantic liberal pussy. And as we all know from Team America, assholes and pussies really only get along when there's dicks involved (Korey and Leon).

They were the buffer for all the animosity all this time.
