Real 'art house' films mostly play at festivals now, and then go straight to dvd, provided that the response was good enough. Some recent examples of 'art' movies worth checking out: The Turin Horse(playing at selected theatres in the U.S right now), Liverpool(2008), Colossal Youth(2006. Released on by Criterion), Climates(2006), Certified Copy(2010) etc etc.

Awww boy, it's the same every time: if you don't give your local guitarist comedian his sammach, he's gonna take it... IN THE FORM OF HUMAN FLESH!!!!
His guitar is just the bread for the sammich, and it cost him a THOUSAND DOLLARS. A thousand dollar sammich people, so you know it had to have been too good for him to stall it off. T'is why he freaked. ;P
