Comment by An Atheist Goat on April 16, 2012 at 9:37pm If Cuaron did the next one = awesome. My favorite movie all time is Children of Men--simply brilliant director...we'll get a crazy 12min shot in 'Catching Fire'; can't wait!

Comment by Lish on April 16, 2012 at 9:25pm As a South Florida dweller I shoulda warned you. South Florida has ruined women for you guys. Lol there ARE ridiculous amount of good looking women here. The guys here are totally numb to it though. Glad you guys had fun. I still sad I missed the meetup on Thursday
Comment by keh006 on April 16, 2012 at 9:22pm I don't know how Cuaron can direct Catching Fire when they are planning to shoot the movie in the next few months. He has heavy post production work for Gravity to deal with.

That's totally true, but they were also discussing the movie as if the re-release wasn't a big success and wasn't making a lot of money. Even if they knew about the money being made overseas it seems weird that it wouldn't be mentioned.
Comment by keh006 on April 16, 2012 at 9:17pm Its perfectly acceptable to use Rottentomatoes to show what the majority opinion might be. Because thats what it is. If you love a movie but if only 20% of the people like it than you are one of the exception to like it.
Comment by Donwun on April 16, 2012 at 8:52pm Regarding the Anime question…yeah I asked Korey the very same thing on the new years eve call-in show.
Leon, it was nice to hear your thoughts on why you feel anime would not translate so well to live action but I think you just saw it from the obvious side of things.
It’s not just the visual aspect that makes anime so intriguing the actual storylines are quite thought provoking and unique
I think technically we are at the right point to tell an anime story sufficiently without the need of Michael Bay level aesthetics. Take Chronicle for example…it was the closest thing we could hope for an Akira movie and to be honest if the script was written differently it could have very well been an akira movie albeit making some exceptions (Tetsuo’s transformation)
Another Example of this would be PREIST which was based off a manwha…well it was not bad because of the visual effects rather it was bad because of the awful acting and badly mishandled script.
Theres a ton of anime I could name that have great stories that should be able to be visually appealing easily with technology as it stands to day…so the Anime is too exaggerated stance doesn’t really stand up in my mind as an all-valid reason….just a single reason
It really does not have to be James Cameron with his huge visual plans for Battle Angel Alita to get the job done right if you ask me….Battle Royale was Animeish and it was done quite well
Anyway I appreciated you guys talking about the anime industry
I currently run Spill\s only Anime / Manga Podcast…been doing it for a while now its Called DREAMcast
Anyway that’s my two pence….the saga continues
