Everything that C read into the lion king is complete horseshit. Stop smoking what you're smoking.

I know this is a double post, but I have to say that discussion on the Lion King was sweet. (I hadn't listened to it yet when I originally posted)

The Lion King sucks. It's just a shitty Disney rendition of Hamlet.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but Disney stopped being good about 30 years ago and they should just go the fuck away. Kids should watch the old-school Disney movies and stop there. After that, they can watch true classics like the old Godzilla movies and the original Star Trek. Oh boy, I'm screwed now.

Carlyle...you are full of shit sometimes.

I think that Korey had it right when he said that what Carlyle was describing was socialism. In any case I loved the rant about the Lion King. I also found out that Hamas actually used ideas from the Lion King for their propaganda.

I don't want to undermine my boy, Carlyle, but I think you all need to know this isn't the first time for him. He wrote an equally, inappropriately psychotic rant about Happy Feet for Ain't It Cool News.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30704?semperex-search

When I pinned him down about the ridiculousness of this he had to admit that he wrote it while in the throes of extreme nicotine withdrawal. So, I would advise you all to take his opinion with a HUGE grain of salt when stimulants are involved.
..or just about any other time, really (he does a similar bit The Ant Bully pushing the Communist Manifesto).

In fact, I would caution you all to be wary when anybody who doesn't have children plays 'Chicken Little' and tries to warn you about which movies you shouldn't let children watch.

Besides, the only real controversy about The Lion King is how it's a total %$*&ing ripoff of Kimba the White Lion.

Were Simba any other lion in the pride, C's theory may hav been plausible. However, it doesn't apply in this case.

Simba isn't a part of society. He's royalty. And that comes with it's own separate rules for behaviour and duty. Had Nala run off and hung out with Timon and Pumba - wouldn't have made a lick of difference. But Simba was an heir to a throne So individual wants and desire do not apply here. I think I was in grade 8 when this came out and figured that out even then. I hate to pull quotes from romantic comedies, but 'being royal is not the same as being famous'.

Royals have to put their duty to their subjects first, and their personal desires second. And he didn't go back because of the girl - he went back because the boy monkey reminded him of his duty after she told him what was happening - of the consequences of him not completing his royal duty. And in that is *is* exactly like Hamlet - he ran away too, remember. He returned to fulfull his duties as well. Avenging his father yes, but also in the process protected his people from an improper ruler, and left room for a better one. Richard II Henry IV. All about duty and nobility and how royalty is not and cannot be the same as everyone else - when they try to be - when they ignore their duties, everything falls apart.

Maybe you have to be part of the commonwealth to understand?

Dude - next time - beer, not coffee. Or if it must be coffee - small cup.
