I was never a fan of what people would call chick flicks. I found them all to be a bunch of mindless drivel and just totally unrealistic. In every single romance flick there has always been a happy ending and it always left a bad taste in my mouth. It always starts off with the ever so desperate lonely female protagonist who through many attempts could never find a guy who holds the “key to her heart”. After she gets the speech from her snarky best friend she has a chance meeting with the man who will ultimately be the one to break down her emotional wall and sweep her off her feet. I don’t mean to sound bitter but c’mon, will there ever be a movie that is realistic when it comes to relationships? This same formula of “you can’t be satisfied until you find that magical penis “is leading young women to believe that life is like a romance novel complete with candlelight dinners and moonlight serenades.
I’m only ranting because I’m getting a bit tired of the same old thing and wondering if it’s me who needs to hop on the bandwagon , eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s’ and cry along with the main character. Maybe I’m just too realistic.
My question to anyone that is reading this is have we gotten to the point where sappy/ cliche endings are becoming tiresome or are we content with pretend romance?
