A 14-Year Old Reviews - THOR (3D, Unfortunately)

WARNING! SPOILERS ! GTFO IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!!!!

Plot:

In 970 A.D., Odin (Anthony Hopkins), king of Asgard, wages war against the Frost Giants of Jotunheim and their leader Laufey (Colm Feore), to prevent them conquering the Nine Realms, starting with Earth. The Asgardian warriors defeat the Frost Giant's and seize the source of their power, the Casket of Ancient Winters. In the present, Odin's son Thor (Chris Hemsworth) prepares to ascend to the throne of Asgard as King but is interrupted when the Frost Giants attempt to retrieve the Casket. Against Odin's order, Thor travels to Jotunheim to confront Laufey, accompanied by his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), childhood friend Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and the Warriors Three: Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Fandral (Joshua Dallas) and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano). A battle ensues which forces Odin to intervene and save their lives, destroying the fragile truce between the two races. For his arrogance, Odin strips Thor of his godly power and exiles him to Earth, accompanied by his hammer - and source of his power - Mjolnir, now protected by a spell to allow only the worthy to wield it.

Review:

Right off the bat, I have to say that this is the best and yet accurate comic book movie that i have ever seen in a while. Kenneth Branagh have made a well made straight forward action packed superhero movie. If you fear that this will eventually end up as a 2-hour commercial for the upcoming Avengers well... Have no fear! they pretty much simplified the entire story so that they won't reference too much Avengers and stuff. And also if you think you seen it all in the trailers, clips and pictures well you are wrong. There are still more scenes here that either you never see it coming or never before seen, especially the Hawkeye clip that was released a few weeks ago, His screen time was enough to make you till say holy shit and you can't wait to see him in the upcoming Avengers movie. First of all this movie is like almost 2 hours long but the pacing in this movie is pretty fast it feels like half an hour long movie. The script in this movie is pretty damn good. The translation from comic book to movie was handled very well thanks to Branagh and also how he handles the cast very well. The actors delivered they're lines very well, and from what i mean very well i meant it is believable. How Hemsworth, Hopkins, and Hiddleston's performance and how they deliver they're lines were incredibly powerful (no wonder they're gods). That one scene where Odin took away Thor's power how the three delivered they're lines was extremely powerful. Newcomer Chris Hemsworth's (where the last time we saw him was at the first 5-6 minutes of the 2009 Star Trek film) perfromance in this movie is like comparing it to Robert Downey Jr's Portrayal of Tony Stark/Iron Man because he showed perfection of h is portrayal of the god of thunder. As i have said along with the three i have mention (Hopkins, Hiddleston and himself) he delievered his lines prefectly. And we have Anthony Hopkins who portrays Odin perfectly he was a perfect choice to portray the King of Asgard, again he delieverd lines and powerful acting as always. He always have been in a bad movie (Wolfman) but no matter how bad that movie was Anthony Hopkins will be there to make up all that shit. Tom Hiddleston who brilliantly portrayed The god of mischief, Loki. Whenever he is on screen you actually see him as Loki than just some random actor, There were scenes here where he talks angrily and how he delievered that anger in the dialogue it reached a great impact and alsoscenes where he was mischievous. A recent Oscar-Winner Natalie Portman joined the cast and i think she proved that she can do a great performance in every movie she got no matter how shitty that film is, but i can't tell how great she portrayed the character because i wasn't familiar with Jane Foster in the comics before . And then we have the Warriors Three coming to life for the first time in the big screen which is Fandral, Volstagg, Hogun. And the three of them were done very well and yet they were translated very well. I think Ray Stevenson portrayed his character the best. He captures the very gluttonous and wisecracking God that we all know and loved in the comics. Hogan was probably the weakest link, i don't know why do asian characters in a movie is always the zen-like silent type characters. And finally we have Fandral played by Joshua Dallas i think the actor did portrayed his character well too. And lastly we have the two Jaimie Alexander as Thor's confusing Love interest and Idris Alba as Heimdall the observer of worlds and protector of the Rainbrow Bridge, Bifrost. Both actors were very good in the movie they fit very well with the other characters. but still this movie is missing something callled, Enchantress (hope she'll be in The avengers and Thor 2). But to me the complaint i have in this movie is the comedy, It's a PG-13 movie hopefully kids will come in and watch this and they had to have one character that can crack a lot of jokes and it is Kat Denning's Character Darcy. She was really annoying in the movie. THe special effects is worth praising for in this movie because these are the best special effects i've seen in a Marvel Movie, From the CG city of Asgard from the deadly look of Jotunheim and the frost giants those places look extremely believable and almost realistic. And then we have The Destroyer which also an accurate design from the comics and his character was defined well enough in the movie. I was lucky enough to watch this early but unly to watch this in converted 3D, the only reason why i watched this in 3D because i was super late to see the 2D screening, the only good 3D you will ever have is the Paramount logo. That's all i can say from the movie. THE BEST TRANSLATED COMIC BOOK MOVIE TO DATE

MY RATING:

EPIC WIN! - 5/5
