The Hollywood Reporter says that Samuel L. Jackson is set to star as Sho'nuff in Columbia Pictures' remake of Berry Gordy's 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon.

Jackson will play take on the role of the bad guy, Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, originally played by the late great Julius Carry.

"I'm a huge fan of the original and look forward to bringing Sho'Nuff into the 21st century," Jackson said.

The updated plot will be along the same lines of the original, centering on young martial arts student Leroy Green in his quest through the streets of New York to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the Last Dragon. Those who achieve the high ranking possess the Glow, making them the greatest fighter alive.

The project will take a new look at "Last Dragon" coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Motown next year. Davis Entertainment's John Davis and Gordy's son Kerry Gordy are producing.

I am a huge Sam fan. And though I feel his phenomenal swagger is more than enough to capture the Shonuff role, does anyone truly see him doing any martial arts punching and kicking any time soon?! That is the best thing about his characters. You don't have to ever imagine him doing any organized fighting because you could never imagine anyone actually f*cking with him. Then again, Motown ain't exactly Dreamworks...so discussing what it would take to make this a good movie might be moot.

I dunno but if Sam Jackson keeps making mediocre movies it's not going to be good for his career, despite how much everyone likes him. I want to see him in some good movies again, not bad movies that his presence improves upon. Jumper comes to mind where if he wasn't in it it would have been horrible instead of the "eh" it was.
