Mark Millar Gives His Superman Reboot Pitch

Source: Empire

Mark Millar spoke with Empire and has revealed some details about his 'Superman' pitch to Warner Bros. saying "It's gonna be like Michael Corleone in the Godfather films, the entire story from beginning to end, you see where he starts, how he becomes who he becomes, and where that takes him."

Millar calls his trilogy idea the "Magnus Opus" of Superman

“It’s gonna be like Michael Corleone in the Godfather films, the entire story from beginning to end, you see where he starts, how he becomes who he becomes, and where that takes him. The Dark Knight showed you can take a comic book property and make a serious film, and I think the studios are ready to listen to bigger ideas now.”

“The problem with Superman Returns was like releasing Star Wars in ’77, The Empire Strikes Back in ’80 and then waiting 28 years to release Return of the Jedi, it wasn’t relevant. I understand what Bryan Singer was trying to do, to pay homage to Richard Donner’s original vision, but I think you should pay homage by doing something completely different.”

“I want to start on Krypton, a thousand years ago, and end with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers."

So Spill Nation, how does this sound to you so far?

Good pitch, I like it.

No....it really doesn't. Millar said it himself, the guy's no longer relevant. Leave him in comics. They made the movies matter and movie companies want to make money too badly to make anything of quality. Too cocky off the success of batman that has NOTHING to do with how good a supes film would be.

Because noone likes him. Pfft, wasted my first comment.

I like the concept but Superman isn't immortal. Thats to much!

I don't want you fans of Mark Millar to be offended when I say this, but after I read the article, this is what came to mind: Seriously Mark Millar, FUCK OFF! I'm with Derrick, let Geoff Jones handle Superman. You go run along and make Kick Ass.

If this is going to be a trilogy it could be epic.

Irony. That Mark Millar's B.S. doesn't work on you guys but it works on people who buy comics. Sometimes I lose hope in humanity I guess it's the right words for the right people. Thanks Spill nation I needed to see this tonight.

That sounds... kinda cheesy, really. I don't know, why do we need to see Krypton? Why do we need to see the sun go supernova? I don't even want to think about the sun going supernova. I thought Mark Millar's concept would have been a little more interesting.

I have to admit, this really is something different but he lost me at Supes being the last being on earth. Then, the sun becoming a Supernova and he loses his powers.
