Hot off the success of High School Musical's opening weekend, Paramount has fast-tracked their 'Footloose' remake which will also star HSM's Zac Efron and be directed by Kenny Ortega.

The studio has brought on "Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist" director Peter Sollett to rewrite the Jon Hartmere script and hired Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to join Dylan Sellers as producer.

Unlike "HSM3," "Footloose" will aim for an older teen and adult demo. Efron is just about set in a deal that will pay him a mid-seven-figure salary and give him script approval.

While Sollett rewrites the Hartmere script, the studio is working on new songs that will complement some of the memorable original tunes. Though the Herb Ross-directed film wasn’t a musical, screenwriter Dean Pitchford wrote lyrics for songs that included the Kenny Loggins title song as well as "Let’s Hear It for the Boy," "Almost Paradise" and "Holding Out for a Hero." At least some of those tunes are expected to be in the new movie.

Why god? I mean it hasn't been long enough to do a re-make of this movie. My generation knows how to use Blockbuster.

Footloose is a great musical and a lot of fun. i'm going to check out this director's stuff before i pronounce judgment on it, but as a self-entitled Musical Theater geek, i reeeeaallly want this to be good. it was one of the first musicals i saw as a kid and was completely different than the usual 'Wizard of Oz' and 'Annie' fare. while the presence of Zac Effron automatically brings up images of (overly) cheesy acting and dance numbers, i will give him the benefit of the doubt. also, it's for an older audience, which is a GREAT sign

footloose was part of my childhood. i was like 6 when i first saw the movie. i remember wanting my high school prom to be like that. i'll reserve my judgement for the remake but i'm none too excited about it. footloose is too much of a classic. soundtrack and all.

Why is "HS3" Being used as an excuse to do this remake?
Friday $16.9 Mill, Sat $15.3 Mill, Sun $9.7Mill..... I'm sorry but by this

I wouldn't really call the "appeal for a Footloose" remake strong when HS3 lost almost 1/2 it's business 2 days after it's release.
