Ok, so I was cruising around on imdb and other websites in order to get the latest rumors on the sequel to The Dark Knight, if there is one. Most of the posts I found center around the rumor that Johnny Depp would play the Riddler. While

I admire Johnny Depp and love his movies, I do not think the Riddler would be in the next Batman movie.
Reason 1: The character of the Riddler himself is a very campy character, reminiscent of the old 60s Batman TV show. His crimes focus around riddles and jokes. This is a little out of the atmosphere in the Nolan Batman series. One example is The Joker, who in the comics uses trick gadgets and other objects to carry out crimes. In the Nolan Series, The Joker uses little gadgets besides simple bombs and machine guns. Also, the costume of the Riddler may remind fans too much of the Joker.
Reason 2: One of the co-writers for
The Dark Knight has stated that, "Batman has been published for 70 years. In the first movie, we used Ra's Al Ghul and the Scarecrow, who had not been in the movies before, and had not been in the '60s TV show before. There are dozens if not hundreds of other characters that fit that bill."
While some may argue that the Joker was also in other Batman media, it is noteworthy that he is Batman's main enemy. Since the Riddler has already appeared in the 60s TV and another Batman movie, the creators of
The Dark Knight may want to give their fans something new.
Even though I believe that the Riddler will not be in the next Batman, I still hope they could fit Johnny Depp in somewhere, as he is one of my favorite actors.
But who do I want as a villain in the next Batman? It falls down to these two:
Bane: I know he was in that shitty
Batman and Robin movie, but Bane is a great character. Despite the fact he looks like a Mexican wrestler, Bane is portrayed as highly intelligent in the comics. On top of that, he was able to break Batman's back. (See below)
The Red Hood: The Red Hood is an vicious criminal mastermind. In the comics, he is either the first Robin turned bad after the Joker beat him with a crowbar or, ironically enough, the Joker before he encountered Batman.
The Black Mask: A former business man who turns into a criminal when Bruce Wayne takes over his company. I think he will be an interesting foe for Batman because his history makes him and enemy of not only Batman, but of Bruce Wayne.
Thanks for reading.
