TO THE CRETINS WHO WATCH MTV WHO HAVE DEIGNED TO VOTE "RIO" BY DURAN FUCKING DURAN BEST "MUSIC" VIDEO OF ALL TIME.... THOSE THAT IGNORE HISTORY ARE CONDEMMNED TO REPEAT IT...im sick of the lionisation of has been SCUM who were shit "back in the day" and have been coasting ever since...
EXAMPLE
the associates "sulk" was released same month as "rio"..ah it could have been so different..for the ignorant the associates were basically BILLY MACKENZIE & ALAN RANKINE (bill sang, al did all the rest).
..a better produced record than rio by more talented AND better looking boys..but the masses went for DD because the associates were just a little too "weird" for the herd...a shame for all..but then ive never heard ANY band say that DD were an influence, unless fred durrrst knows something i dont (joke)...and the rest of the "top" 5 videos? all drivel that have been robbed of any significance by repetition. i mean "like a prayer"???? YAWN
ever seen "its a sin" (pet shop boys)? it amazing what you can get with a real director behind the camera...

Damn this hipster irony! This love of all things 'kitschy' and 'retro' must stop!

I could list a hundred better videos from a wide range of genres. Like them or not, Depeche Mode had some beautifully filmed b/w videos back in the day, Bauhaus as well. Not saying that's the best possible choice, but if you're going to pick something 'well known' from the 80's, why not something like that. The only exposure to what was going on back then that your average current MTV viewer has is from all that damn 'I love the 80's' tripe, and those shows never have any real depth to them. I remember watching MTV the very first week it was on, dammit, and I've just seen it circle the drain more and more. I don't think I've even glanced at it in about 5 years, and from what I gather, I'm not missing a thing. Do you honestly think some 'Punk'd' fan has any clue about The Associates? It's a damn shame.

It is sad indeed how the medium of video sort of collapsed in on, and consumed, itself. I've had the discussion before regarding how many of the greatest musicians of all time would be virtually unheard of, simply because they're not 'pretty' or 'visually marketable'.
