Okay yes people I have a job, but I did get two movie cards this summer, so by god I am going to use them! So again I am talking about my favorite topic - MOVIES, and reviewing some recent ones I saw. You can agree or disagree, or not read - your choice, but here are my thoughts on Tropic Thunder and The House Bunny! Enjoy!
Tropic Thunder: Overall a very good movie, quite enjoyable, but could have used a few more laughs. Well first of all the cast was very well put together, and there are a few problems with this movie, but overall I would say see it, you will get quite a few laughs. The star is by far Robert Downey Jr.; whenever he is on screen this movie works, and you are laughing your ass off. He is so funny in this movie!
Unfortunately the mastermind behind the movie, Ben Stiller is not as dynamic on screen and takes a backseat to his co-stars. I hate saying that because I love Ben Stiller’s work, particularly in Dodgeball and Zoolander – he is hilarious! You are very funny Ben!
Jack Black is very funny in his parts that he gets to munch on, particularly when he is tied to a tree and coming off drugs, he is incredible; however, I don’t think he was given much material to work with. I really like Jack Black and would have liked to see him do more.
Okay I have to talk about Tom Cruise in this movie, now I personally have some negative feeling towards Tom Cruise but in this movie I completely forgot about them. He was soo funny as a vulgar a*&hole movie executive who is bald and hairy, and he just committed to all of it! It was great fun to watching him dance to his hip hop music. Thank you for laughing at yourself for once!
In addition, I want to give a little praise to Matthew McConaughey for his supporting role in this film, because he also made me crack up. Thank you Matthew and your devotion to TiVo!
The House Bunny
Okay this is a straight up chick flick, and I am not one for chick flicks. I personally only own like 10 out of 350 movies or so, but I saw this movie with a girlfriend of mine because I love ‘The Girls Next Door’ so much! I can honestly say I really liked this movie! I mean it’s not great, but it’s very enjoyable for the female audience. I loved Anna Faris! She was so funny in this movie! She did a great job at playing a ‘dumb blond’ without a clue and with a heart of gold. Congrats Anna! In addition I need to give some kudos to Emma Stone, who is a drop dead gorgeous girl, and who really was committed to being completely awkward in her role-to the point you want to look away but you need to watch because it’s so funny. She is a very good actress, and I am sure we will be seeing a lot more from her in the future.
Finally I will say that guys- you probably need to skip this movie. Although there are lots of laughs and many pretty girls, I am not sure if there is enough for you to appreciate it and it’s primarily a girl driven plot. However, ladies I would say grab your girlfriends and go see this movie, or rent it with a girl’s night, because you will enjoy it very much!
