Peter Jackson is finally going to produce "The Hobbit". As most of the people out there who follow film geekery know, Jackson and New Line, the studio that produced LOTR spent the last year squabbling over money but it seems they have put the douchebaggery behind them and will be allowing Jackson to take the Helm on The Hobbit. The upshot of this is that the beautiful organic feel and look of the original trilogy will be maintained as Jackson will almost certainly be utilizing
WETA the special effects company that designed the architecture, costumes and weapons of LOTR. Additionally, the studio is promising not just one but TWO Hobbit movies which seems to indicate that Jackson will wring out evdery last available scene from the book with the same attention to detail with which he adapted the trilogy. Should be interesting considering that the hobbit would flow pretty well as a two hour project (Rankin Bass' 1977 animated version was a mere hour and 18 minutes and it covered the bases pretty well). The only thing the animated version really didn't touch upon was Beorn and the Carrock which takes up about one chapter of the book. I'm imagining we're going to be treated to some in-depth time with the Darves, cool flashbacks to pre-desolation Erebor, an Exttensive Battle of Five Armies scene and DRAGON!!! Thank Bog, now I'll have something to look forward to after The Dark Knight comes out this summer.
