ROSARIO DAWSON (
aka, my next ex-wife) is no tourist the geek world. She’s been the darling of many a fanboy-fave directors, possibly beating out
Kate Beckinsale for most starring roles in sci-fi/ fantasy/ cartoon-related flicks:

Josie & The Pussycats
Men in Black II
The Adventures of Pluto Nash
Sin City
Grindhouse
Robot Chicken
Descent
She gets extra points of playing the
unrealistically hot girlfriend of a toad like Brian “Dante” O’Halloran in
Clerks II
(actually, just being in that movie should earn you a purple heart). And she still has the
Wonder Woman animated movie and
Sin City II yet to come.

But besides acting,
Rosario Dawson developed a comic book last year:
The Occult Crimes Taskforce is a fictitious group of New York Police investigators who patrol a district of New York primarily populated by practitioners of magic. The "Otherground", as the denizens refer to it, is the epicenter of an extant that connects the Earth with another dimension.

Rosario helped develop characters and story lines for the series and was the inspiration for one character, detective Sophia Ortiz. She said,
“The world of comic books has been a breath of fresh air, particularly when it comes to reviews. There's very intelligent criticism, which is really sorely lacking in film reviews right now”.
Rosario’s latest project is a web series titled
‘Gemini Division’.

Comprised of 50 three-minute episodes, the sci-fi thriller is set “five minutes in the future” about a New York City detective. Anna Diaz (Dawson), who realizes her fiance isn’t everything she thought he was. And the Gemini Division is an organization that has been formed to bring together a group of “renegade sims”, that were created for the Iraq war, but all of a sudden went AWOL and are rumored to be forming a secret terrorist cell. Much of the footage is shot on green screen, transporting the actors to locations and places they otherwise couldn’t afford. Truth is, they plan to shoot 150 minutes worth of content for only $1.75 million. You can check out episodes at
GeminiDivision.com
Personally, I never cared much for any web shows (that weren’t cartoons) because the cheapness of the production outweighs everything for me. However, I’m starting to be intrigued by this one. Besides the fact that it stars
‘my baby’, it’s a good showcase for how much better things can be when you use top-notch actors/actresses rather than community theater players.
Dammit! I know...

..that there's a reason...

...why I like...

...watching this show...

...I just can't put my finger on it right now.
